You know, I think I'd rather stay out of hurricane alley, where MeanQueen is.

Legomom--Christmas decor is definitely a plus! Perhaps another deal will come out or you will get a pin code.

Just hoping for you. . .

and Sadiedog and kimmar--I'd hate to be trying to sell anything right now. Best of luck to you.

Alright everyone I need some input. I really wanted to treat my mom and best friend while we're in WDW. I was thinking either by staying at AKL or going to V & A's. I'm starting to think that since we'll be spending so much time in the parks it doesn't make sense to stay somewhere really expensive and that a nice meal might be better. What would you prefer to do if you were going?

I would appreciate anything extra someone did for me. They would not have to spend a great amount of $ for it to be special. If you know a place they would love to eat, that is a great idea. I don't know what V & A's is so I can't comment on that specifically. Ask yourself - although AKL would be wonderful, does that surprise really fit into your budget? You said you are spending much of your time in the parks. Would you rather save AKL for a more relaxed visit?

Y'know, every time I get up to pee at 2:00am, I think about having to walk to a comfort station....:headache:

.

:scared1::scared1::scared1:

That would make the decision for me right there. :lmao:

DD got her H1N1 shot today. I had run out after work to get Tylenol and applesauce. She does not take medicine at all for me. Liquid and pills all get violently thrown-up. I crushed the Tylenol up really well and put in the applesauce. She ate about 1/2 of it, gagging several times. I hope she doesn't get sick off of the shot. The Tylenol was "just in case" type thing. Mind you she's 13 and should be able to swallow SOMETHING down, whether it's liquid or pill. She can take a St. Joseph aspirin, but, with the possiblity of Reye's syndrome, I don't want to give her aspirin right now.

Oh, I feel for your daughter. I was the same way as a kid, medecines just made me gag. Horribly. I finally learned how to swallow pills when I was 15, no joke. I'm much better now, so there is hope.

Hey everyone, just checking in. We have these things called industry on campus where art companies come and talk to us. I'm off to see Nickelodeon.

Cool!!!

I could also use some thought/prayers as I have a pretty severe staph infection in my arm. I got one about two months ago and have been battling it on and off. I have to be on antibiotics for the month and i'm starting to get really scared.

I'll keep you in my prayers, dear. I hope it clears up soon.

...a group of realtors from that area had a big Open House on Sunday to really push the sale of the house...my DH hasn't heard from the listing salesman, so he figured that it wasn't a success....:sad2:

Good luck, hon! Selling is a tough position to be in right now.

Honestly?

I love food, don't get me wrong. But to spend that much money on one meal when I could stay in a nicer hotel? I'd pick the nicer hotel, hands down, every time. That's just me though, and a lot of it relates to my last trip. I'll be talking about it on my trip report soon, but it's so subjective.

Where were you staying, I forgot? It's all the feel you want when you go "home" at the end of the day, you know?

TarzansKat, your responce regarding V & A's has me wondering how expensive this place could be. I know nothing about it and honestly if it's outrageously priced, I would not even consider going. I don't know what "that much $ on one meal" means, but it sounds scary.

I don't even remember the exact pricing, I just remember looking at my DH and saying, I just can't see it. It was enough that my mind was thinking of all the other things I could do with that money.

You know what I haven't suggested that is a great girls thing?

Tea at the Garden View Lounge in the Grand Floridian. It's so much fun to just relax with the girls, reasonably priced, and a nice bonding experience. I've done it several times and never had a bad experience. :goodvibes

Air conditioner? I can't comprehend that right now.

Ok, I admit it. I DO enjoy hearing about your trips/visits and I LOVE pictures. Where are you staying for the night this weekend?

Beach Club Villas. I guess one good thing about it still being hot is we may be able to swim at Stormalong Bay. There's a PGA golf tournament there this weekend. My DH and a friend are going while we women folk stay back and hit a park. My friends who are going with us have a DD turning 7. We plan to get a Kitchen Sink at Beaches and Cream. We're also trying the Cape May clam bake buffet for the first time.

Kimmar and Sadie - sorry about the tough real estate sell. My FIL just took a huge hit on his property down here. But it was better to take a loss than keep paying monthly fees. While property prices got out of control in Florida, it's still not back up to a normal balance.

Anna - As much as I love food, I'd go for the better room. AKL has such amazing views. Even if you don't get a savannah view room, you can sit in the open areas with a cup of coffee in the morning and watch the animals. It's very special.

Ok, I googled it. $125 a person with an extra $60 for wine pairing. Are they serious? That is not something I could enjoy. For example, I would be thrilled if someone surprised me with the Wishes Dessert Party at the Magic Kingdom. If budget was not an issue, the AKL is a fabulous surprise.

Here's the info on V&A's regular meal:
Prices are per person and do not include tax, tip or alcohol unless indicated:
$125.00 per person (Tax, alcohol and gratuity additional)
Price of wine pairing - additional $60.00 per person

PREMIUM MEAL - Six-course meal featuring fresh ingredients gathered from the world's markets - Contemporary American cuisine.

I've never eaten there. I'd do it for an anniversary celebration or something else very special.

Mean Queen, your weekend sounds great. Sorry to hear about your FIL. Someday things are sure to improve, right?

Oh my, $125 and still have to pay tax and tip. That would be another good chunk. I wouldn't even want to do it for a celebration. Considering I have been twice and only eaten counter service, any table service dining would be considered a great surprise and a 'nice meal' to me. :rotfl2:

I agree. My mother loves the AKL for this reason, being able to relax and watch the animals in the mornings. :goodvibes

Wow. That is pricey. Just more than I would even want to spend on food when that money could easily make up the difference between resort pricing, you know?

And I'd be happy with a Wishes Dessert Party too. ;)

AWWW!

Someone needs to take this woman to a table service restaurant!!! :lmao:

Ok, wow. The ONE morning I have to go clean at camp, y'all are on here blah, blah, blah and filling up almost TWO PAGES!!!

Hmph!:snooty:

Alright, TOTALLY forgot about Osbourne Lights!!!!!!!!! That's pretty much it right there. But, to add yet another twist to my already pathetic wishy-washy-ness, I'm now thinking of scrapping the Free Dining idea, AND the camping idea, and penciling in the first week of December and hope some offer comes along. I think right now, odds are pretty good that one will. I just don't see the economy improving so much in the next year that Disney stops throwing lures out there to get more people to come! Maybe they'll end up extending FD again through mid-December, like this year. Or do a 4/3 deal (though those seem to fall in the spring months for some reason).

Anyway, the more I think about the camping idea, the more it's not making much sense. Again, the big "if" is the state of the van at that point. Also, I need some new and/or replacement equipment to be able to do that for a week, and just quickly in my head, I can tell you that now the overall cost starts to creep right up there with the FD package. So there goes my perceived savings.

If we wait until the week right after Thanksgiving, I think the crowds will be much lower, the decorations will be in full swing, and it should be a very enjoyable time overall.

Oh, and See - my vote is also for AKL, if you can swing it. I'm with SadieDog in that I just could not enjoy a meal that cost that much!! I would enjoy a stay at AKL far more.

.

Traditionally, there is some kind of deal going on during the early part of December. This year it was right up until the 23rd, I think and a couple of different offers. I think, barring any huge upswing in the economy, you can count on some kind of discount.

I think everyone should see the holidays at Disney at least once. And the Osbounre lights are amazing. Totally worth it.

That being said, hands down, my favorite time of year to go is fall. :goodvibes

Legomom--my trip this year was originally booked for free dining and then I changed it to the 4/3 deal. There are actually 3 deals going on until Dec 24 this year--room only discount, the free dining (continued for stays that were booked before Dec 17), and the 4/3 deal. I think there should be something next year. Perhaps you can budget a rack rate and become pleasantly surprised.

That is actually what I think I will do. After the holidays (!!) I will likely go ahead and book with Dreams Unlimited. The gal I've used with them before is fantastic and is always on the lookout for deals that may come along. But at least I'll have it booked (and have almost a year to pay it off!).

Nice looking place. Love the land around it.

I have never been to upstate NY but I bet I would like it. Well, a bunch of us drove to Buffalo to see The Grateful Dead, but I don't think that counts. :rotfl2:

...there is a brook at the edge of the back yard, where you can go trout fishing too...
