Tag Fairy 102 - looks like I need to say more

okay.. here I go again, showing my mean side.

Listen people. Tagging was started just for fun. I'm sure the fairies responsible never wanted it to be something that would hurt people's feelings or caused arguments or even got to the point where people would actually beg for tags.

As I mentioned on my 101 thread - the tag fairies have a LOT of other responsibilities - and tagging believe it or not is very LOW on their list. It was something they did to brighten the day of an UNSUSPECTING poster. Whining and begging is going to get us nowhere other than to wipe out all tags to stop the nonsense.

So your lesson today is - please.. stop the number of tag fairy begging threads, tag fairy clapping threads and tag fairy thanking threads. I know you want to be polite and thank the tag fairy but you are just going to make those wishing for a tag feel left out.

Tagilarchy - you are doing a great job as a tag fairy fan club and say go for it and keep your thread running. People, if you would like to thank a tag fairy for your new thread, please do so on the tagilarchy thread. I'm sure they would love to see new friends over there!

I'm sure I stepped on some toes here but I'm trying to make sure that the tag fairies aren't so stressed out that they don't just make everything go.. POOF

Well said, Lauri! I'm sure tags used to be fun to give as well as to get. IMHO, it's not fun when it becomes a chore. Let's hear it for surprises!

I think its silly, especially when mods have to get onto people like they are children it has nothing to do with popularity its just """IF""" someone reads something funny someone said....I've had one, but I personally think what my tag says right now means more than a zillion tag fairies could ever say.

Thank You MeanLaureen, and I agree...1,000%, 25 or so threads cluttering up the CB to say "Thanks, So-N-So deserves, (beg), and other assorted postulations is too many. I am not a TAG FAIRY, nor do I know the address of the TAG FAIRY, but I enjoy the surprises that they bring. I have been known to clap for others, and I frequent the TAGLIARCHY.

A one liner of thanks, or sitting by the pool sipping a margarita (we will be moving to a new thread soon, and I have heard the new place will have a pool), or just coming with us on a virtual trip to The Kona Café for Breakfast (Tonga Toast...YUMMIE) is something that the TAG FAIRY might enjoy watching. We sit and chat and clap for the TAG FAIRY.

The TAG FAIRY will sometimes listen when there is a good reason, but usually we just enjoy each other's company and offer virtual chocolates. If you ask for a Tag, you may get it, you may not. If you offend the TAG FAIRY, you can either loose your tags, or be labeled a non-believer....Trust me, the TAG FAIRY are verrrrry slow to forgive. one person had that tag for over 6 months, and if I recall, they tried to change it to something else...well.. you get the picture...

I would really hate to have to make the phone call to Pete and ask him if I should make the tags all go buh-bye!
The conversation would go something like this:
Hey Pete.. we need to talk about this "tag fairy" thing.
What about it?
Well it started out as a fun thing but it's way out of control
Well does it add to the boards?
I think it did, people really liked being surprised and it made a lot of people smile
Then what's the problem?
The whole community board is filled with people begging for these things and it's turned into a kind of popularity contest, It's really taken away from the fun aspect of it.
Ok then get rid of them, why are you asking me?
Because if I do stuff like this, then when you hear about it you call me and say "WHY DIDN'T YOU ASK ME??"

So.. let's play it cool and not make me have to make that phone call.

Tags are fun and I hope they don't go away. They are wonderful little surprises and add a great bit of fun.

I think the idea of using Tagilarchy for thanking the tag faries is a good one. Those who work hard tagging have a place to go and see their thanks and the rest of the board doesn't have to wade through the posts.

Alex, I think most people would not want your tag because of all the hard work that goes with it! A great big thank you to you and all the moderators for the work you do!

Both were ery nice, Alex's was a little less subtle. At the risk of sarcasm, (no this is not a serious suggestion in the light of this discussion) we could have a poll, "What Annoys the TAG FAIRY the most."

There is one point I feel needs to be addressed, many of the "TF objectionable" threads are started by people who are not regulars here on the CB. They think that this is the most apropriate place for thier requests. I am not sure of how to deal with this added aspect, maybe you could start a sub-thread (like you did on the tech support forum) just for the TAG FAIRY? That would cause a whole ne worm of cans though.....
