Another one of my teammates, a 270 pound heavyweight, used to go to the food court on campus while wearing sweatpants. They had a Pizza Hut express stand their selling the personal pan pizzas. This guy, would "acquire" up to 10 of those pizzas by putting them down his sweatpants, then come down to the locker room and try to offer us some pizza. None of us ever took him up on it so he would eat all of them himself.

Hi everyone, would you like sausage or this cheese one I just cut?
UHHHH NO!!!!!

when I was in college, we had a pizza chain called Godfather's. they had the usual pizza buffet. we smuggled out plates and glasses in our pants and then smuggled them back in the same way so we could eat for free. poor college kids are resourceful.

I must be stupid, but I called in to work today because I am so sick to my stomach, and her I sit reading all of this gross stuff. :rotfl:

This isn't gross, but tacky. Why do people insist on heaping their plates with something, take a small bite, and then decide they don't like it? Why not take a small portion of something if you are not sure? :confused3 I think that is so wasteful, not to mention rude.

I think almost all of them, if not all, are closed. It was terrible Pizza as I recall, but real cheap. Almost as cheap as CiCi's (and almost as terrible too)

For us it was Shakey's. They had buffet. We'd go just at the end and they'd let us take the night's leftovers to the dorms. They always had to have some ready to go in the warmers because they never knew when a ballteam would just come in. So inevitably, they would sell us about 4 or 5 Pizza's for 5 bux.

You also need to be careful at meals served "family-style"! We were at such (not WDW) with a friend and her mother. The mother served herself from one bowl, proceeded to lick off the spoon before passing the bowl down. Friend did the same with a different bowl. DH, other friend and I all exchanged looks and carefully avoided those bowls. SIGH - some people are just clueless!

This was not at a Disney buffet, but it sure shocked me: I just recently was at a sit-down, nice, expensive restaurant with a friend. Across from us was a young family, kids maybe 5 & 7 or so. Everything was normal until dessert time. The restaurant has a tray of desserts that they bring around to show you so you can see what you want to order. The tray of desserts was sitting on a table caddy corner to us, while the waiter was taking the order of another table. The dad from the young family went over and took a fork full of two of the cakes to 'taste'. Then giggled. He encouraged his kids to do the same & then they did! I could not believe it. The mom just sat there like it was no big deal. Ruined all those pieces of cake/pie and they didnt even order dessert. Really bugged me. :crazy2:

If I ran that restaurant, I think I would have charged the family for all of the desserts that they "sampled." Maybe then they'd learn a lesson...(then again, people like that probably wouldn't learn anything).

At Red Lobster, we encountered a women with a large purse. She ordered the all-you-can eat shrimp and stuffed zip-lock bags with the shrimp.

Maybe she is on a fixed income.

This an interesting thread.

Buffet etiquite is a big source of disagreement between me and DH. He was actually taught by his mother that it is OK to take food home from buffets. While we don't go to the extremes mentioned here, he makes sure that everytime we leave each kid has a piece of fruit "for later", and sometimes he will grab a few extra donuts or bagels if we are at a breakfast buffet. He also takes big handfuls of napkins and sugar packets whenever we go out. It drives me nuts. We are not poor. We can afford napkins. Yet my napkin holder at home is full of napkins that say Dunkin Donuts. I try to get him not to do this but his mother trained him well.

Slightly OT, but we went to Club 33 at Disney Land (a private club above Pirates of the Carribean, where people/companies pay a lot of money for membership) with some friends of ours. Myself and a woman from our group went to the restroom together. On the backs of the toilets, they had baskets of tampons. This woman joked with me about taking some as she opened her purse and dumped all of the tampons (probably 20 or more) into her purse.

She walked around for the rest of the day with a purse full of tampons! :rotfl2:

Also totally OT but could be worse. Friend who is a smoker dumped a whole basket of matches in her purse at lunch. Went back to work and set her purse on the heat register. Whole thing went up in flames! :firefight Said she learned her lesson about stealing. :rotfl2:

Last year we ate breakfast at Boma. There was a couple next to us. She got up to go to the buffet and when she got back the server had brought a beautiful tray of chocolates and fruit to the table. She asked the husband what it was for and he told her that he told the server it was their anniversary. It wasn't!

So do you ever eat the fruit or bagels for later?

:rotfl: sorry this whole pizza in the pants is so sick but i had to laugh..i can not imagine ..oh never mind :rotfl:

EW!! some of these things aren't tacky but juts plain GROSS!! We go to a local chinese buffet frequently (drinks are included ;) ) and I went to the restroom one time and while I am washing my hands this woman walks out of the stall and right out the door. When I went to go get my food, guess who was getting hers. Nice!

I think if i had allergies or if my kids did, we wouldn't eat at buffets. IMO, it's too risky. One time, at the same buffet, this guy was putting shrimp and broccoli on his plate and the juice was dripping off his plate into the next food serving which looked to be just steamed veggies. Not really his fault but could do a person with severe seafood allergies harm!

On our first trip to WDW as a married couple we wne to the Biergarten (when it was group seating). We sat opposite an older couple from Long Island. They delivered us 4 pretzels as appetizers, the LI Women opened her purse and put all 4 in. Two of them were for us. Then our meal arrives and I head cheese on my plate. I swapped with DH and he ate most of the stuff, but not the head cheese. When DH was done the LI Women took his plate and cleaned it off into her purse. We were horrified. She told us that her husband gets hungry at night and she needs stuff to feed him. We still joke about them after all of these years.

HEY!!! Did ya feel ya HAD to mention the couple was from LI ??? as a former LI'er I am sooo offended
Just kidding Let us not forget that LI is a part of NY and anyone who lived or has ever lived there knows we are a "special breed!" :rotfl2:

In the park/resort buffets I've seen people empty the sugar/artif. sweetener holder into their purses! Would serve them right if it opened up & they had a sugary mess on their hands.

If someone's stuffing food from an all-you-can-eat buffet in baggies, they're too far gone to reason with...

My pet peeve is the unattended, young children sent up to the serving area who take a bite of something & put it back or stick their fingers in a dish to taste it:eek: .

When my children were much younger & money was "tight" & vacations were truly on a shoestring; our main meal of the day was a buffet. My DS's called it "garbage-ing up".LOL

This is nothing compared to what goes on in the kitchen of many restaurants.

That's true, I wroked at a restaurant, where pretty much anything would go. I'll spare all of you the gross details.

The fruit always gets eaten for snacks. Sometimes the bagels get eaten. Sometimes they get dumped because they got too stale or mushed before we get to them.

I'm curious as to why this makes a difference? Do you think its OK to take extra stuff from buffets as long as you eat it later?
