Tables in Wonderland

Where do you buy the card?

I think you're able to purchase the TIW card wherever you can purchase APs - so usually at Guest Services in/outside the parks. If I'm wrong about that, I'm sure someone will come along to correct me.

The TiW card can be purchased at any Theme Park Guest Relations window or Downtown Disney Guest Relations window.

APs can be purchased at any Theme Park Ticket window, Guest Relations location and new ones can now be purchased at the Resorts.

Only possible negative would be required 18% gratuity in the event of poor service which I am pretty sure won't be an issue.

It's always best to tackle service problems as they are happening, rather than to accept it, and then punish after the fact (which a server will hardly ever see it as punishment, but rather as "thank goodness I didn't work hard with them, since I was right about them being low tippers", IMO).

We have had one for several years and lately have used it instead of the dining plan. It is wonderful for alcoholic drinks and for counter service, especially since the gratituty is not added in at CS.

OMG...I didn't know I could use TiW at Artist Palette...we ate there all last week. I spent $180 there on food.

That's $36 wasted. I even asked them if I could use any discounts on the food. :sad2:

I would find my receipts and send in a detailed email with dates/times etc. Since you specifically asked about discounts, it's just awful they didn't tell you!

I too was at Disney last week and spent ~$330 on food and beverages at participating restaurants. I asked about the TIW card and was told it is still not available to dvc members. When I saw on this thread that someone had gotten one I called the TIW phone number. Someone just called me back and said it is NOT yet available to dvc members. She said she had heard that it would be some time in the Spring. She also said there was nothing I could do to make it retroactive to cover my trip from last week. By the way, I did use the dvc discount and got 10% off on food, but not liquor.

At MK on Wednesday 1/16 I bought an AP and TIW. I asked the CM if she knew when TIW would be available without an AP and she said it had just started that week. So, someone is inaccurate! I would bet it is the person you received the email from. :surfweb:

You might try calling?

10% off food for DVC members? I didn't know about that. Is this at all places, or just select ones?

I used the 10% off at Raglan Road in Downtown Disney, ESPN Sports and Big River Grille at Boardwalk, and San Angel Inn in Epcot.

very limited locations and sometimes only for certain meals. Here's an old list - there may be some changes.

I agree with spleen. More places DO NOT accept it than accept it, unfortunately.

I plan on purchasing the TIW card for our August/September trip.
There will be 2 of us for 3 nights and then 4 of us for 5 nights all eating adult meals so I am VERY confident we will spend over $500 on lunches/dinners, especially since we like to eat at TS restaurants and some signatures.
The DVC discount is nice when we can get it but so frustrating since I feel it really should be accepted at more places.

How many people does the DVC dining discount cover? Any number of people dining with the cardholder?

Just got back from the World last night. I went to Guest Relations at Animal Kingdom Park on Saturday January 21st and purchased TIW ($100) with no problem. Now that cast member used to work in the DVC department - so maybe that helped. :)

We were able to use it in several locations with no problems. We saved around $50 already. We should be able to more than break even in October when we are back for eight days.

Wow..that's great to know. Did they ask to see your member card? Does the TiW card mention anything about being DVC?

Probably does. For passholders it has 'TABLES IN WONDERLAND - PASSHOLDER' on the back. Also has the expiration date and my name.

Supersuperwendy,

Yes, I needed to have my card with me - not just my Key to the World card. Honestly, I didn't look to see if it said DVC but I think it did. It has my name and an expiration date of 1/31/13.

I think I'm going to get one on our trip in March. DD and I will use it some on that trip and then we'll definitely use it when we go back in December for our family trip. DH and I are thinking of going for a couple days in October just the two of us for F&W festival so we'd probably so a sit down at least once while we are there then too.

My question is can I get a second card for DH while DD and I are there in March? Does DH have to be present for me to purchase his? If not, can we add the second card on our trip later in the year for DH?

When we take our family trip in December DH will hang back at the lounge a couple of evenings while DD and I go back to the parks. It would be nice if he had a card to use for drinks.

I plan on getting the one for $75 since DD and I will be getting AP's so for two f them it would only be $125. I'm confident we will more than break even between our trips this year.

Are you sure about that expiration date? If you bought on 1/21/12 then you should have gotten 13 months.

I got mine on 1/18/12 (I'm still here) and my card expires on 2/28/13. I'm an AP holder and DVC member so only paid $75. We reached our "paid" for itself yesterday. Since it's only 2 of us on this trip, it took a little longer. So on our next 3 trips we will be saving, esp since 2 of those trips are for parties of 6 or more and those three trips are a total of 7 weeks. OP, your card should have been for 13 months unless the rules for DVC members are different.
