Hi, I am trying to figure out if it is worth getting an annual pass.

Just doing the sums now, can I just check I have this right.

TIW - cost $75.00 (with annual pass)
Added tip of 18%
Discount of 20%

where does the sales tax get added. To the total after tip or before tip and is the 20% discount taken off before the sales tax is added or after?

How much is that Sales Tax?

Tax is figured on the total before the discount. So is the gratuity.

My receipts actually are listed like this:

Items Purchased: $xx.xx

-20% wonderland food discount $xx.xx
-20% wonderland bev discount $xx.xx

subtotal $xx.xx

+ 18% gratuity
+ tax

= Amount Due


** after doing the math, TDC Nala is correct, the tip is based on the total before the discount, it just doesn't print out like that.

and one more question can I use the TIW card for the Fantasmic package?

Did it recently change?

When I've used it in the past it's worked out that the tax is on the discounted amount and the gratuity is on the total amount.

$100 Total Bill
-$20 Discount
$5.20 Tax (on $80)
$18.00 Tip (on $100)
$103.20 Total Bill

I don't believe that ANY business, this would include Disney, can charge tax on a pre-discounted amount. I believe tax laws would dictate that tax is to be charged on the discounted amount. Think if TiW like applying a coupon; tax is always charged after the coupon is taken off.

No, it's not accepted for the special meal packages.

I see - you pay tax only on what you actually pay. However, they want the tip calculated on the pre-discount amount.

I also have a question. I am in Disney now and some of the restaurants give you a beverage discount with this card and others dont and only give a discount for the price of the meals. What is that about? Thanks

The TIW discount is supposed to be on the entire bill. Including beverages, alcoholic or not.

I thought so too and even raised it with the waiters but they only took off for food . This happened several times, so annoying. Tomorrow I will ask for manager if they try to do it again. Thankfully I put it on my room key because your resort can fix the amounts if you do.

The discount should be listed as:

20% Wonderland Food
20% Wonderland Bev

Even if there are no beverages ordered, this notation should appear on the receipt with a 0.00 in the amount column. Where did you dine that you didn't get the discount? Was it a buffet or somewhere that includes beverages? If so, then the amount on the beverage line should be 0.

Honestly, I don't know how they'd override the system to NOT give a discount on beverages.

I agree though - it sounds more like a misreading of the receipt or a beverages included in the meal price or something. We have never had any issue getting the discount on everything we ordered.

Here is a working example, using $100.00 as the original bill to make the math show up easily. Note this is for Table Service. At Counter Service there is no gratuity added.

100.00 - Original Amount
*20.00 - Discount
*80.00 - Subtotal
*18.00 - Gratuity Added based on $100
**5.20 - Sales Tax on $80
103.20 - Final amount charged, takes into consideration discount, gratuity and tax.

Without TiW Discount (and still figuring 18% Gratuity)

*18.00 - Gratuity
**6.50 - Sales Tax on $100
124.50 - Total

$21.30 - Savings using TiW Card.

(Note - At Victoria and Albert's the added gratuity is 20% instead of 18%.)

One reason I stopped buying the DDE (now TiW) was having to constantly carry a letter to prove beverages were included in the discount.
Final straw was the GF Cafe manager treating me like crap and insisting I was wrong that I was to get a discount on coffee and juice. (The one time I did not have the dang letter on me. )
But it was ridiculous and tiresome to always have to ask about getting a beverage discount.

Seriously? In the 4 years that I've had the TIW card (previously DDE card) I have never had a problem getting the discount on my beverages. Like Tara said, they would have to override the system not to give you a beverage discount.
