That makes it very convenient. I wonder if there is a way to use this online booking when you have an AP (for the $75 rate) or if you still have to go to Guest Services.

Thanks so much!
It's one of my first things To Do after we check in at BWVs in August :thumbsup2

Sorry to be confused, but I thought the Tables in Wonderland Card was always available to DVC members?

if i am correct that the tiw card offers a 20% discount on meals at 99 participating eateries, and "A charge of 18% gratuity will be added to all transactions, regardless of party size." - does one really save anything more than paying a gratuity?

seems it would take me a long time or many meals to recoup my $100 if i only have a net savings of 2%/meal.

am i missing something?

I would assume you would tip 18% anyway regardless of a discount? I actually tip better than that most times so the 18% automatic gratuity actually saves me more.

So if u get a 100 bill and tip 18% u pay 118

If u get 100 bill w tiw u pay about 98. 20% off = 80 + 18% gratuity is at most 98. It may be less I'm not sure if they take the gratuity on the original bill or after the discount

You savings would only be 2% if you do not currently leave a tip. I don't consider the amount of tip when I determine my savings as I would normally tip 20% when I don't use the TiW card.

Gratuity is calculated before discount, tax is calculated after discount.

Please clear this up for me. The DVC TIW costs $100. The AP TIW costs $75. Is that correct? What is the cost for an extra spouse card with DVC?
Thanks.

Assuming one always tips 20% (many do), then DVC members break even with the TiW card after spending $400 at participating restaurants or bars. If the TiW card is purchased as a passholder, break even is $375.

I just think of the TiW card as a "no tip necessary" card after I break even. In reality, it saves us the 20% we would normally spend on the tip and the wait staff still gets the customary gratuity. Over the course of a year (usually 2 trips, sometimes, 3), that 20% adds up. :teeth:

Plus, using the TiW card removes the temptation to order too much food or the most expensive items on the menu. It also removes the pressure to eat TS meals every day or to do a lot of math to convince myself that I got my "money's worth".

I stole this from one of Cheshire Figment's posts over on the Theme Parks board. Hope this helps people understand the discount a little better!:

Here is a working example, using $100.00 as the original bill to make the math show up easily. Note this is for Table Service. At Counter Service there is no gratuity added.

100.00 - Original Menu Amount
*20.00 - Discount
*80.00 - Subtotal
*18.00 - Gratuity Added based on $100
**5.20 - Sales Tax on $80
103.20 - Final amount charged, takes into consideration discount, gratuity and tax.

Without TiW Discount (and still figuring 18% Gratuity)

100.00 - Original Menu Amount
*18.00 - Gratuity
**6.50 - Sales Tax on $100
124.50 - Total

$21.30 - Savings using TiW Card.

(Note - At Victoria and Albert's the added gratuity is 20% instead of 18%.)
* Ignore the asterisks; they are there only so the columns/numbers line up properly.
