Tables in Wonderland Card just raised their prices again!

Thank goodness my card is valid through October. As of March 1st, now it costs $100 for non-Florida residents to buy it. I think the first time I bought one 4 years ago it was only 50 or 60 bucks. Bleh

Grr!!! Oh well we will be getting it anyway. My DH said to me last month to just go ahead and get it but I figured I would wait until we are a little closer so that we get the extra month expiration.

Are there really that many people buying this to justify raising the price? I had the DDE card and felt it was a great value at the price they were charging. Is this $100 pre-discount? I know the old price was $75, with a discount for standard or premium annual passholders, making the true cost $60.

So if they are still offering 20% off the full price, that is still $80 for the card. That's a pretty huge increase either way you slice it.

Dumb question, but why raise prices for a program designed to give Annual Passholders and Florida residents a break; especially during tough economic conditions? Somebody kick me if I'm wrong, but aren't Florida residents and Annual Passholders Disney's most loyal customers?

The value of our APs and TiW cards have just decreased. I don't get it.

The whole "RU23" thing may help explain this, but I doubt it very much! <sigh>

Disney's reaction to this entire economic downturn is to do this...

Lure new people to the parks with great deals while cutting as much as possible. If you are an AP holder, forget about a deal. The price of the APs keep rising exhorbitantly and now the TiW card price increase is absurd. They do not care because they assume that we'll keep paying it.

Weeelllll, at least we will get a good rant out of this. If I remember correctly, I paid $65 for my TIW card in December. At least it is good through 12/31/09 so I won't need to get a new one for my DAP trip.

Being the obsessive planner that I am and the spreadsheet geek that I am, I will decide how much I am planning to eat at Table service for my April 2010 trip and see if it is worth it. Of course I will be staying at BCV, so I will have all of those great table service restaurants at easy reach, so I will probably have a few meals that way. 20% each table service and a couple of counter services that take the card adds up.

It doesn't make sense to me that WDW would choose to reward their most loyal customers with yet another price increase, especially in such a poor economic environment. I can tell you that we will not be renewing our APs or the DDE card even though we have a trip planned for October ... the price increases just don't make it a good enough deal any longer.

Actually for me, the AP is still a better deal because I only buy one, and I get the DVC renewal rate. If I keep my plans of thumbing my nose to Disney's food and wine festival event planners by having an "event" dinner at Victoria and Albert's again, that might justify getting the ridiculously-named Tables in Wonderland card. (I still call it Disney Dining Experience. Yeah, I'm a rebel.)

So they've still got me, but I'm not happy about it. And I'm willing to be the Designated Card-Carrying Member if we share any meals that accept the card.

I also don't like that TiW cardholders can only get discounts to HDDR and such for the 9pm show but at least that annoying stipulation has been in effect for awhile.

I live in Georgia and usually come down for about 4 weeks a year. Next year, we have already decided to cut it down to 1 week. We are going to go on a western U.S. tour for a week, and then spend a few weekends at places like Charleston, Williamsburg, D.C., New York, etc.

The past two years has really made me realize that Disney is losing its touch with why people make return trips. It certainly isn't just to ride Peter Pan for the 39,000th time. I go because customer service was so good, food choices were great and all the other entertainment offered. I guess Disney doesnt need all our money so I am going to diversify my vacations for awhile.

Are you sure it's $100 for NON Florida residents? I believe you HAVE to be a Florida resident (or have an AP) to be able to purchase TIW.

We just renewed ours in January and it was $75.00 but we also have AP's. I believe the $100.00 price is for those who don't have an AP (either regular or seasonal).

Can anyone confirm this?

Regular annual membership in this program is now $100, for Florida residents who are not annual passholders. Passholders can purchase TIW for $75/year. I just bought ours on Sunday March 1st at Disney and paid $60.00 for it when I activated our Annual Pass. It is good for 13 months. She did say they were going up but said $10.00 I thought. We aren't Florida residents either. One thing that is strange is they don't give you the folder that says where you can dine and what the discount is. They also don't have the cardboard holders for the Annual Pass- along with the printed stuff that tells you about valet parking etc. I also agree that I hate calling it Tables in Wonderland. I feel sort of Mad Hatterish when I have to say it. But we use it a lot when we do buy an annual pass and it has been worth the price.

I know some people have been thinking, "Gee, it's only another $15". But you have to figure out the REAL additional cost. Since it is a discount card, you need to figure out the break-even point. At the $60 price, the break-even point was $240 of post-discount food. Now at $75, the break-even point is now $300 - an increase of $60!!! So that $15 increase actually costs the cardholder 4 times as much.

I don't think the stuff about tacking on the $18 percent is a big deal. As far as I know you can ask to have it removed to calculate your own tip. But I think it serves two purposes - one, its convenient for the math-challenged (I once miscalculated and left only a 10% tip one time, and once I completely misfired and gave a 50% tip). I always add a little more if the service deserved it. The other thing is it is a reminder that the tip really should be calculated on the pre-discount amount of the food, but people have a tendency to look at the bottom line when calculating the amount.

Are you able to "share" this card like the Photopass? If so, I'm going Oct.23-30 and would be willing to pay use your card and send it back whan I am done. I've seen this done on Ebay but didn't know if it was legit??
