Table service options for super picky child

Look at the menus before hand, it's honestly the only way
this is the only honest answer. Looking at the menus and see what your child will or will not eat.
When our kids were young, the staff at EVERY restaurant were awesome, bringing snacks, etc for the kids until the food arrived.
Still, if your kids don't like the menu, it doesn't matter how great the staff is.

I have a kid on the spectrum who is a picky eater, and we were more selective about restaurants when he was little, but as he aged we would go to where the majority of the family liked to go, and then he would get something afterwards. At age 17, he understands that his food tastes are restrictive and he doesn't mind waiting it out.

But yeah, on earlier trips I would scan menus. In most cases, Disney is pretty accomodating. For example, he wasnt a fan of the fried chicken at Hoop de Doo, so they brought him some nuggets. It never hurts to ask, but make sure your child doesn't expect that they will have something.

Hop into my WayBack Machine and we'll revisit a Disney World without kids menus. Instead, they did half-portions, which were miraculous for those of us with children who loved food. For half-price plus $1, you could get half-portions of whatever was on the menu. That'd work so well for seniors, too, or those of us who've had bariatric surgery or just "eat small." DD wouldn't eat nuggets, hot dogs, hamburgers, or pizza when she was young, but loved "real" food, any kind of ethnic cuisine, etc. This was perfect for her. Her favorite restaurants at Disney were Spoodles and Boma.

Just as an FYI - I have had success ordering something that wasn't necessarily presented as a kids option @ WDW. I remember asking for green beans at Flying Fish for my kid (was not a kids option) and they were like yeah no problem. WDW is great about taking kids meals back and changing it out if the kid doesn't like it my experience. I've also been able to get plain pasta at pretty much every place even if it wasn't on the menu. I find table service in WDW far easier to accommodate pickiness then any other place I've been too!

I always order some foods I know my kid will eat for our hotel room just in case... cereal, fruit, etc,

Whenever I see people complain that there aren’t enough options in the kids menu, I just sigh. Because the same can be said for selections on the adult menus in many restaurants. Since the post covid openings, menu options in general have been far more limited. It’s been long enough now, I feel like a Disney has figured out this is a much more economical way to run a restaurant and it will be the new normal.

I’d love to see more options and post Covid flexibility with menu items. I’m a senior and a diabetic so actually often check the kids menus. Having a picky eater can be a constant day to day struggle… options and flexibility where possible is always appreciated especially on vacation!
