We are 5 and requested to sit alone but got a table for 8 with another family of 3. It worked out fine and we enjoyed the other family' company very much. I did see a table of 3 near us though.

We were just wondering the different sizes of the tables and I had a feeling that they would not likely have tables for 3.

Plus I think it would be good to sit with another family and here their take on what they did or were planning on doing.

Anyone had any bad experiences sitting with other people at dinner?

hi, we are a table of three and on our last cruise, we were seated with a father and daughter and that made it a table of 5. It was very nice and we enjoyed each other's company. Two other times, when we were a family of four, (our older son now lives on his own) we have a table to ourselves. When 9 of us went as a big family with grandparents, etc. we had a table for 9, just us. We assume they will put a couple with our family of three; either way it doesn't matter. p.s. because the last time it was a man with a 13 yr. old daughter, I suddenly didn't have to worry about 13 yr. old son's manners! He suddenly, miraculously knew how to cut meat and not hold it in the air on the end of his fork! So maybe it is a good thing. Barb

I was hesitant to sit with strangers for dinner and almost requested a table alone, but I'm so glad we sat with someone else. Our two boys developed a fast & furious friendship (for 8 year olds!)

On our last cruise we sat with two other families, nope 4 families (the 4th was a DH/DW no kids). We were from all across the country. We had the best time.

I have always enjoyed sitting with others while we are on the cruise. We asked to sit at a large table on our next one (there are only 3 of us) and see what happens.

Most of our cruises have been with my parents as a foursome and have had our own table each time. In the times we've been a twosome, w'eve been sat with others and have had a pleasant time! One thing I would note, both times we've been sat with a couple from the same area of the US. I think they do try to match people somewhat when mixing tables.

We have never sat with anyone from anywhere near us. We are from SC and have sat with folks from CA., MA., MT, Fl, PN, NV, TX, England, IL and VT. We love the dinning experience as much as any part of the trip.
Try sitting with others. If there is a problem, you can get moved.

If you are a family with young toddlers, do they try to seat you with the same? I can just imagine being at a table with another family who perhaps have teenage daughters and we have a 3 and a half year old son and he has ants in his pants. I am fearing the dirty looks already. I would like to try to have dinner as a family. Do you think that I will be uncomfortable? Will people have something to say?

We just returned from the 11/2 cruise. We are also a family of three. We were seated by ourselves at a table for four. We did not request any special seating arrangements.

Lruggierio.....Just wondering.....Did you happen to grow up in Plainview, NY? Went to school with a girl by that name but probably not you if that is your married name.....Had to ask.

If you don't get along with your tablemates, you could speak to the head server about getting moved. We have never had this happen, but on one of our cruises there was a grandmother and grandson seated with us and two other sets of adults. It was very boring for the poor kid on the first night, so grandma spoke to the head server and they were moved (we met her later and she told us).
Since we don't have kids and always take late seating, we are usually seated with other adults. But on occasion (usually holidays when the kid population is high), we have had families at the table, ranging from a three year old (a little princess with perfect manners ) up to teenagers. We have really enjoyed having young people at the table and hearing them tell us all about the cruise and the exciting things they did all day. I still laugh when I think of the little boy we sat with on the Western telling us how he was squirted by a conch in Key West! Hubby and I eat together every day in our home, so we love meeting others at dinner on the cruise. We have even hit the nightclubs with some of our dinner companions on some trips.

Meeting other families and couples is a highlight of the cruise experience. On our last cruise, my 17 year old daughter and I were seated with three other couples (two were absolutely delightful/one very rude and obnoxious). The six of us tried to engage the others in conversation, but it was beyond hope. Still, we had a fabulous time. One evening, I wasn't feeling well and opted for room service soup and crackers (I am a semi-Vegetarian who went a little crazy with seafood intake the first two days). My daughter felt perfectly comfortable having dinner with our tablemates and even went to a movie with the group after dessert.
My advice, go and enjoy the opportunity to meet new people from around the world. If that doesn't appeal to you, you have other options for dinner - Topsiders/Room Service/Fast Food etc....

We are also a family of 3. We were a little nervous about the dining arrangements before our first cruise but knew that meeting new people would be part of the experience. We thought DD8 would cram down her food and want to go to the clubs every night. We were seated with a mother and daughter about the same age as our. The girls hit it off and became fast friends. The first night we found out the mother was a fellow DISer. We kept in touch over the summer and sailed together again in October for the $99 cruise. We had our ressies linked and another DISer joined us making a table of 7. We had a wonderful time.

If you are apprehensive about who you will be seated with it may be a good idea to link up with a fellow DIS who has kids of similar age or no kids etc. Just a thought.

On our very first DCL cruise (the actual Maiden Voyage of the Magic) we were seating we were a group of 7 who was seated at a table for 8. When we came into the dining room we noticed a single person was already at the table. At the time I thought it was strange that a single alone would go, but anyway we came to the table and introduced ourselves and immediately felt very uncomfortable. The man was obviously off balance and looked just like Lt. Dan (after the war!) from the movie Forrest Gump.

This guy was downright scary looking, dressed in a stained tank undershirt and dirty cut off shorts. We was a very bizzare guy who would take food off our kids plates and then put it back, he tried massaging my friends shoulders at the dinner table and all round just a wierdo. We immediately went to the head server and requested either him or we be moved. They moved him (to a table of one!). The wait staff even had a problem with him and he made one female server cry. This guy was seriously off his rocker!!! He should not have been travelling alone as he had mental problems.

Our next cruise we were seated with a mom and her two kids and no matter how hard we tried to be friendly and strike up conversation, they wanted no part of it.

Happy to say that on our last 4 cruises we have travelled with friends and family and had tables for our own group. Sorry this was so long! It just hit or miss!!
