Thursday 26th November Thanksgiving
Popped in Walgreens first thing and bought the Orlando Sentinel, then we went to Denny’s for breakfast. I had the Heartland Scramble and Theresa picked various item off the build your own breakfast menu. Eggs over easy.
We took the paper back to the condo and went through it cover to cover pulling out all the sales flyers. We found out some shops were going to start their sales today!
The sun was starting to break through so we decided to go down to the pool for a few hours. It was lovely laying there soaking up the hot sun. There is something deeply healing about the warmth of the sun, it warms the soul.
Late afternoon we got ready to go out as we had an ADR at O’Hana’s. We left early as we wanted to check out a couple of thing from the flyers. I popped into Wal-Mart to look at a laptop they were offering at a silly price. I decided not to bother coming back tomorrow as the keyboard layout if different to an English one and I struggle to type with two fingers as it is. I don’t need to have to remember a new keyboard layout as well.
We then went to Michaels’. They were opening at 5.00pm to start their sale. Theresa got some Cricut carts at less than half the price you can ever get them for at home, but they didn’t have the one she wanted to get the most. She got lots of other sales offers so she was happy.
Next we head straight to O’Hana’s. We didn’t have to wait long for our pager to go off. We were seated next to the window with a castle view as we had requested so that was a good start. Unfortunately it all started to go downhill from there. The meal started off with a salad that I knew I’d not be eating anyway. Theresa liked it though. The main meal would have been fine if everything had arrived at the same time. We had a platter with Turkey, mashed potatoes and sweet potatoes with green beans and all the trimmings. What we didn’t have was plates! We waited ages for the plates and when they did come the food was getting cold. I had to ask for a knife, which the server promptly forgot about and I had to ask again. He asked if we wanted seconds of anything and we said we’d like some more turkey. When it arrived we realised we hadn’t had any gravy on the first lot. The server kept disappearing for long spells and it was a real pain when we wanted more drinks. The dessert was banana & coconut bread and butter pudding a la mode with vanilla sauce poured over it at the table. This would have been fine, except it was served in a large dish with a serving spoon and two forks. No bowls to dish it out onto. We ended up with me having to move around the table and both of us trying to eat it out of the one dish with a fork. You can’t eat a dessert in a runny sauce, with a fork!
When the bill was brought over our server asked if everything was OK. I said no and asked to speak with the manager. I explain everything that was wrong and he apologised and explained that the staff was not used to the one off menu and they had a problem with cutlery and crockery due to a dishwasher breaking down. I said we were not happy and we wouldn’t accept that level of service at the IHOP let alone on Disney property.
He apologised again and gave us 20% discount. The bill still came to $66 inc tip.
Thinking back now I should have held out for more as to my mind it wasn’t worth it, it was the worst meal we have ever had in Florida. We have had much better meals this trip for under half that.
We had a walk along the beach and took some photos before watching the electric light pageant.
We decided not to stay for the fireworks as it was very chilly and Theresa only had a thin dress on so we headed back to the condo and an earlyish night as we had to be up early tomorrow for the black Friday sales.
