To make t-shirts or not to make t-shirts, that is the question.

No seriously I'm in that state where I realized that this date is coming close (71 days!! Lol it seems like a lot but I've been waiting for about 240 so..) but I have nothing else to do so I'm like, "Maybe I should make t-shirts?"

But that little voice ("I have a little chef telling me what to do." Haha sorry I have ADHD and I didn't take my pills) is telling me that it's kind of tacky to make shirts. So should I? And if so, what's TOO cheesy? Like ty-dye. That's just....too much. (No offense.) K thanks. BYEEEEEEE

They have cute custom shirts on etsy or maybe look @ some tutorials on Pintrest.

I don't think it's too tacky! I haven't made any for us, but I have bought coordinating or matching shirts! Ex- my son & daughter will wear Toy Story shirts the same day! Me/my husband got matching Mickey shirts. I've seen some families all wear a certain color on a day or even their fave football team's shirts! I think you can get away w/ just about anything @ Disney (even tie die).

Maybe even let the kids help make the shirts...Something fun & exciting to do while you wait!

We are one of those families with matching shirts some days, matching colors others.....and I love checking out other families shirts as well. So I don't think it's tacky either.

For our children's first trip to Disney, I bought white t-shirts and fabric paints and let them design their own "first Disney trip" t-shirts - which they wore on our first day at the park. Then, the rest of the days, we all wore coordinating colors - i.e. day two - blue, day three - yellow, etc. My reasoning behind that was in case we got separated - it's easier to spot the color and the kid in a crowd like that. And wearing the same color myself, I would always remember what he/she was wearing that day.

For our last trip, we wore coordinating colors once again, plus I made t-shirts for our entire family for two of the days, and a third t-shirt for the kids for another day.

We are already planning t-shirts for our upcoming trip in December. And my kids get right into it. They help me pick the design....I'll ask the fabulous Disigners here on the board for different one, and my kids request their own name fill characters. So it's fun to spend time with the kids just putting these little details together for the trip. It's great family time, and it makes the kids an important part of the planning process.....at least in our house it does.

That being said, there are a number of families that go to the parks and don't have matching shirts.

But if you are not comfortable with it, then don't do it. Either way, you will NOT be alone in your decision!! :cool2:

We always make at least one or two shirts for our disneyland/disney world trips. The boys are starting to get grumpy about it so this time they only have one but the girls have 4...2 rhinestone and 2 mickey heads!

Just another vote for matching shirts! I make shirts for our family of 5, one for every day of our trip. Not only is it a fun project before we go, it has come in handy more then once when our youngest (age 3 at the time) took off after the Finding Nemo ride and when my oldest wandered off in Mousegear in search of all things pick and sparkly!
I just found the nearest CM and said I'm missing a child. He/She is wearing this.
As far as tacky - trust me, you'll see a lot more "tacky" attire than just matching shirts at the parks! When my mom joins us, she's always making comments like "were they so excited to see Mickey that they forgot to look in a mirror?!" :rotfl2:
Go and enjoy yourself!

Just pickup the 80 shirt tie dye kit at Michael's craft store, a couple of packages of soda ash, some 100% cotton t shirts (this kit will make up to 25 to 33 shirts depending on the size of them), and go crazy. My kids love tie dye and love the shirts I've made for them for trips. Feel free to get as creative as you want, but make sure to put extra coverage down on your work surface, and use a large tub with a rack to help minimize the mess, when actually dying the shirts. Tie dye is alot of fun, especially if you are the creative kind. Don't be afraid to go outside the box with the folding. Some of the kids fav designs were the ones I did really different folding techniques using my imagination.

We like to do matching colors. We have 5 children, so I match them in the same color any time we go somewhere crowded to make it easier to keep track of them. Since we already have shirts in the same color, we just take them to WDW, too.

If you decide to do matching colors, the easiest way to do it is to go to a kids' resale store that sorts shirts by colors. If you decide to buy new shirts, you can go crazy going from store to store trying to find everyone a shirt in a certain color. You'll still have to buy shirts for your husband and yourself, but at least you'll have taken care of a big portion of the shopping at one store. I usually start by shopping around and finding some cute shirts for myself in colors I know will be easy to find for everyone. Then I go to a resale shop for the kids' shirts. Then I go online to buy basic t-shirts for my husband in those colors from some place like Lands End or Hanes.

I love the idea of T-shirts! Wish I was crafty! Thank goodness for etsy! Ordered matching shirts for the trip. Not sure husband is as excited as me but he will go with the flow, I guess! We have not had a vacation in 6 years, so I figured that I would go all out! DD has a matching dress for each day of our T-shirts to go with park theme. Yes, I am going to be THAT Disney Geek!:rotfl2:

I love seeing people's Disney pictures with matching shirts. It makes the pictures look sooo much better. You don't have to do anything cheesy. Even a plain shirt with a mickey silhouette would be awesome! :cool1:

We do matching shirts for everyday!!!! Including both travel days. Our first trip in 2011 my DH was hesitant about the matching shirts, but when we started planning 2012 trip and 2013 trips, he asked if I was making them again. He secretly loves them.

There are some amazing designs on the creative boards. Shirts can be purchased at michaels. I usually watch for their 5/10 sales and stock up then. However for our June trip this year I went to target and got some tank tops.

In everyday life.... I would never wear mat hong shirts.

One of my favorite designs is from a guy that is no longer on the Disboards. I was able to find him and he makes them for me every year and emails it to me. It is a Mickey with our names filling it.

I'm doing shirts for our trip, but each kid will have a color. Oldest will be blue, middle will be green, youngest pink. Then I plan on having a matching theme for each day. I.E. Animal kingdom - proably Mickey heads with animal desgins (from DisSigns board), Epcot - Stars etc.

This way each kid gets a little bit of individuality and it they each know what their color is for the trip. They are pretty excited about it. We are even going to tye die for one of the days using their shirt colors as the base.

They have cute custom shirts on etsy or maybe look @ some tutorials on Pintrest.

I agree, they have really cute things! DF and I have had maybe one matching shirt in the past, just because we ended up buying and wearing the same shirt when we were there, but I can assure you, when we go on our honeymoon, our wardrobe will be stacked with matching shirts! Bride, Groom, Mr. Mrs., etc.. My DF is really excited about that ;)

I made shirts a couple of different shirts for our last WDW visit, the girls (two adults and one tweener) the boys (two adults) had different ones. It was awesome! The comments we got were pretty cool and when I look back on the pictures or see the shirts hanging in my closet I have lots of memories. Also us girls did tye-dye.

We are making iron on transfer tshirts for our upcoming trip using the Dis Designer's images. Their talent is amazing! You can find just about anything you would want.

I'm really excited about doing matching for our trip in October. I plan on doing a different one for every day and am so glad DH is into it too! I've been scouring the Disboards to see all the great Disigns!
