I've been toying with the idea of making shirts for my sons for our June DL trip. I was thinking of using iron on vinyl, but I like the variety of a printed design. The only problem is that I have a color laser printer and the iron on transfer paper I have found is for ink jet printers. Does anyone know of a transfer paper for laser printers that I could use a regular iron for the heating? I hope this is the right place to post this.

I do not know a lot about this but I can tell you what I have heard. There have been others here on the boards that have said that there is special iron on transfer paper you can buy for use in a laser printer. The only thing is that you need to use a heat press to adhere them. A standard household iron does not get hot enough.

Because a laser printer uses far more heat in it's printing process, they have to make the paper withstand that heat. So a heat press is needed to "melt" the iron on transfer to the shirt. I hope this helps.

Again, I have no experience with this and am only reporting what I have heard.

That sounds about right from what I've read. Looks like I will just stick with the iron on vinyl.

There are many different types of heat transfer papers available. The best way to start is by choosing which is the best for your printer. So, when choosing a transfer paper you will need to decide what is more important to you, color and a soft hand or cost and time efficiency. To use a regular iron for the heating use your iron's hottest cotton setting without steam. Some transfer papers, such as laser transfer papers, can't be used with a hand iron. One of my friend is working with Custom Clothing Saskatoon, that is why I know all these things. Hope this will help you.

Is the vinyl you're using something you're printing on from your laser printer? I only have access to laser printers, so planning to go with that paper but would have to use a standard iron...
