Just read this on Allears at http://allearsnet.com/pl/events.htm (Scroll to the bottom of the page, the "Beyond" Link at the top isn't working for me).

2008 and Beyond

In early 2008, Downtown Disney will sport a new themed dining experience -- T-Rex: A Prehistoric Family Adventure, A Place to Eat, Shop, Explore and Discover®. The restaurant will be home to life-sized animatronic dinosaurs, a dig site and much more. The table service restaurant will feature waterfalls and geysers, and, as the name indicates, there will also be a retail shop.

I think this sounds so cool! As always, it states the news is unofficial, so we wait and see if it happens, but what a great concept...I'm a grandma and I want to go. I'll go anywhere with waterfalls and geysers; dinos are a bonus! Would love to take my grandsons to this!

Can't figure out where they would put it though, it sounds pretty big.

Mods, if you feel this would be better in another forum, please move it, wasn't sure where to put it since it seems like an attraction with food! :)

Brought to you by the good folks at Landry's, who previously brought you Rainforest Cafe. Bleh.

I thought like it sounded like a Rainforest type restaurant. Yuck! :crazy2: Hope the food will be a lot better at this one. Just from judging at all the Rainforest Cafes I've eaten at, it will take a lot of great reviews before I try this place.

Yep-this was announced several months ago.

Sorry, I missed it somehow.

I like the Rainforest Cafe, at least the one we go to, but have never been to the one at Disney or anwhere else on a trip, because we never go places to eat at Disney (or on other trips to other places) we can go at home. Everyone else here seems to think it sucks so guess I am not missing much; however, we will try the dinosaur one when it opens. Sometimes the atmosphere is more fun than the food (SciFi Diner, case in point. The food is not that great, but we always go back for the atmosphere.)

We live in Kansas city and they just opened the First T-Rex Restaurant here .

We went last week.
It's OK, nothing to scream and shout about. It is just like Rainforest Cafe, but with a Dinosaur Theme. If you love dinosaurs, then you will enjoy this restaurant.

The food was OK, the dinosaurs were neat but it was very loud.

They also had a Build a Dino place. It's just like Build a Bear chain, but with Dinosaurs.

I told my husband, that we went once and we really don't need to go back anytime soon.

Maybe the one at Disney will be bigger and better.

I'm excited.........anything new at Disney excites me :cool1:

I live in the Kansas City area as well, and I thought the food much better at T-Rex than at Rainforest Cafe. In KC, the restaurant is on two levels--the bottom level in part tropics/part underwater theming, and the top level is glacial and snowy. Beautiful theming! The dinos ARE loud--and my daughter loved it! The dig site area kept my dd occupied for at least an hour . . .

Oh yeah-I'm sure my boys will want to go there. I have never been to a Rainforest Cafe, so we should probably give ithe dinosaur one a try. It does sound like the atmosphere would be fun.

We live near the T-Rex in KC also. We took 4 of the grandkids and went about a month ago. It has beautiful theme dinos, jellyfish, aquarium type things etc. It is really neat inside. The drawbacks...we had a 2 hour wait (and we got there at 5 pm on a weeknight). It was LOUD LOUD LOUD. The youngest granddaughter was really scared, the other 3 did pretty well. The longer we were there the better they got at not being scared. The food...so so. I personally didn't like the food even as well as the Rainforest cafe but then it was so crowded that night that might have had something to do with it. We had 2 adult meals, 2 kids meals (split between 4 kids) and it was about $90 plus tip. A little pricy. I won't go back until the newness has worn off and it isn't as busy.

Where is it in Kansas City? My parents live near there so we get down there often...sounds like the kids would love it!

Rainforest is very loud as well but my grandson loves it...I guess I am not very surprised the T-Rex would be loud too...all part of the atmosphere! There is a Dinosaur Walk at the Mall of America I take him to that is also very loud...no food, just lifesize statues (not animated) and dino activities. All of the dinos roar, so the whole time you are in there is very loud, plus it is above the theme park so you can hear the shrieks and screams from the rides...I have a hard time getting him out of there when it's time to leave. He loves digging for bones!

First I've heard of this. I am intrigued! Thanks for posting!

Don't count on it. Why provide better food, when customers aren't clamoring for it?

The T-Rex Restaurant in KC is located near the Kansas Speedway in the Legends shopping District. (on the Kansas side)
