T-Rex restaurant and dining out in general

Hi,
Any reviews or thoughts welcome please.
We are not really 'Disney diners', mainly as Joshua doesn't like dining out generally and it in the past we have kind of opted out of putting us through anymore possible stress and hassle on holiday.
However, this year for many reasons we have decided to go for it, especially for breakfast ADRs as we just feel if we are suited to WDW dining then that is our best chance.

Joshua is autistic and non verbal, though very happy and mobile.

We have 5 ADRs booked, which to be honest for us an acheivement in itself.
Captain's Grille, Tusker House and 1900 Park Fare - breakfasts
Sesame Street character breakfast at Busch Gardens, number 1 choice as he loves SS characters, and it took us an age to get finally booked.
Finally T Rex 'lunch', 3 pm booking, despite seeing lots of photos, the menu and more - we feel maybe 5 bookings is too much and if we are going to drop one this may be it.
Joshua has no understanding of what a dinosaur is, I don't think noise will be too much of a problem, some restaurants have let us take his portable DVD player along in case he gets upset and we can find a quiet(er) table perhaps too.
I suppose we feel we are missing out on dining out and frantically trying to make up for lost time - are we trying to do too much?

It sound like you are providing lots of oportunities with the 4 and while we may do t-rex this year (if we can figure something that they have that DS will eat), it is only because DS is such a dinosaurs fan, that we think he would be ok with such a challenging enviroment.

I have found that pushing to far can often create significnat setbacks on the progress that has been made.

That's true.
The problem is we want to go out dining a little more than we have on previous years, as we feel we are missing out.

It is just doing that without the stress and inconvenience. Plus if we do not try we will never know how he will cope, it could be he really enjoys it.

It likely is one that you can do as a last minute reservation at theat time of day do I would play it by ear. If he is having a great stress free day then sure why not try it.

I am a clinical social worker working with people with special needs -- we have taken a group of 10 adults to Disney two years in a row -ranging from down syndrome to autism. I find that Lunch time is the best for ADR'S not too many people, gets you out of the mid-day sun/heat - gives u a nice break. If you go during an OFF time like in between lunch and dinner 3:00 might not be too bad. I am sure breakfast will work too. What time of day is your son's most difficult. I took our family to the T-Rex and found it LOUD, and over-stimulating for myself -- there are metiore showers, valcanos that errupt, lots of flashing lights, can be dark, there is weird lighting in the ice cave - just alot going on and not a lot of places for quite - might be hard to focus on a dvd player.
hope you have a great time
Jennifer
