Syracuse Airport??

We live in Kanata and are seriously considering Syracuse as well. The 3-hour drive is definitely worth it considering the savings on the airfare.

Oh you should definitely fly from Syracuse, if your car can make the trip I highly suggest it!! Unless you don't mind paying triple the price to fly from Ottawa!!;) Try Jet Blue they have best rates that I can find!

Another vote for the Comfort Inn and Suites and JetBlue! We have stayed the night before we flew twice now and the breakfast bar is set up before 6 am! All the hot food items may not be there, but you can get coffee, juice, pastries, muffins, waffles, cereal etc. before you fly. The Best Western close to the airport has become very run down and is very noisey! JetBlue is now our airline of choice because of the direct flights to MCO. They appear to have changed the times on the SYR-MCO to leave earlier this year, now around 7:20 instead of 9:00 ish like it used to be, but it still beats changing planes and potentially having delays and lost luggage! :woohoo:

We are flying Delta via Syracuse. We live in Ottawa East and have no problem justifying the 3 hr drive to the US to pay only 1247$ CDN for all 5 of us to fly round trip.
Comfort Inn quoted me 185$ for Park and fly and Best Western only 135$?? Wonder why it varied so much from the people who were quoted 129$ for Comfort Inn? Maybe I'll call them back.

Either way it beats driving to TO and paying ALOT more!

Going at the end of August...I know, I know...it's going to be hot.

We are also considering Syracure for all upcoming down south flights whether Disney or not...it is about 2.5 hoursaway for us ( we live a bit east of Kingston)...I have a question..on other parts of this board folks are really really annoyed because their direct flights from various points in the US are being cancelled and they are gettng later flights and what I call hop along flights..one person had their direct cancelled and they now have 2 stop overs...

Has anyone who has a direct flight from Syracuse heard or been notified of this???

Only thing that I have noticed is that my direct flight has been changed from 4:15 to 4:20. But not cancellation as of yet.

We too live 3 hrs from Syracuse.Yesterday we drove home from NYC and the cars were lined up for miles at many points in the drive heading towards NY. Please leave double the time if your flight is the same day. That sight of long waits -has made me reconsider flying out of Syracuse.

When was it that you saw the long lines, could it have been due to a long weekend?? We drive to Watertown quite a bit, which is the same way we drive to Syracuse and haven't seen a long line up for a while???

The problem was because of road construction. From the look of the work they were doing it was pretty major repair - guard rails etc.The summer crowd played a big part also.Leaving the day before is wise..can you imagine missing your flight  !! We always travel south in Sept..but I still wonder if driving to Syracuse is really worth it...

We are in Kanata too - we'll be flying out of Syracuse next year for our cruise.

Our last trip down to WDW was a flight out of Ottawa and it was a total NIGHTMARE:scared1: :scared1: . Our second leg going down was cancelled out of Washington and we had to spend the night. Luckily (?) we were able to get to Orlando the next day. On the way back it was even worse - we got stuck in Washington and were told that it would take 2 days to get us back to Ottawa. We decided to hop a flight to Toronto and try our luck there. We ended up taking a train from Toronto to Ottawa. All of this with DD7 and DD2 - they were in better shape than us by the time we finally got back to our house - it only took us 29 hours!!!!

Cheers,

I guess it really depends on what you value more...your time or your money. For me, driving 3.5 hours each way to save $1200 is worth the driving time and the overnight hotel fee. That way, we don't have to worry about missing a flight because of delays at the airport.

I guess for us I looked at it this way: I can spend 7 hours (total) driving, and save $1200., or I could spend that same time in additional travel time (longer flight times, more stops) and pay $1200. more for the priviledge.

I wouldn't worry too much about the delays on NY roads. It is the same everywhere during the summer. There are construction delays all over the place with road work taking place during good weather. Just plan ahead and you will be fine.

We always fly from Syracuse and live in Pembroke which is still another 100 miles from Ottawa. THe last weekend of June we made it in record time left Pembroke at 5:30 pm no wait at border and by 9:45 pm we were checking in to the Holiday Inn Express. In all the years and we have been flying from Syracuse to Orlando and we have done this now for 9 years every March break I don't think I have ever experienced a border delay or construction delay. We always leave supper time the day before we fly out (so we never miss our flight) and have always had great luck with hotels keeping our vehicle for sometime up to 3 weeks.

This past March we stayed at the Holiday Inn Electronics Parkway. Park and fly was only $105 with them keeping our car for 21 days included. I have never experienced any damage to our vehicles. This year I was a little worried with our 2008 Nitro, but nothing. Although the hotel was noisy (it is like a convention hotel) you put up with it for one night. I would love to fly out of Ottawa but I cannot at all justify the extra hundreds of dollars my family would have to spend and there is only the 3 of us. No breakfast included so we always stop at the Timmys after Brockville and purchase 6 muffins for our breakfast and flight.

We were also told that the Syracuse airport has only shut down once since it was built due to weather. We have never experienced any delays in our flight and we have used Delta, US Air and now our fav. JetBLue.

We visit Syracuse alot during the year just to shop and eat, so we really enjoy going there.

Hi,
I live a few minutes from Hancock Airport which is in North Syracuse. We are going to WDW this Sept. and flying Jet Blue as we did last year when we went in Oct. I check my flight every day. I booked back in April and payed $500 for 2 of us. We leave at 6am and arrive MCO a little after 12pm with a stop at JFK. The prices are all so different. I looked for your date and for the same times I have and the cost is about $700 a couple. As far a Hotels, there is I believe a Best Western right at the airport and from a friend who stay there you can leave your car there and they drive you over to the airport which is in ("Disney") walking distance. There are other hotels within a few miles but beware there is major construction on Buckley Rd. There are 3 hotels on 7th North St. Liverpool, right near I81. ( I work around there). Don't know prices. We park at the airport parking for about $8 a day. Hope this helps.

I'm in Richmond, south of Kanata/Stittsville. I flew JetBlue in June and it was great. I left the house at 9 am and was at Syracuse airport at 1:15 pm and that was with 3 stops (I was with a 4 year old!). Syracuse airport has a great place for kids, with a good play structure and aviation exibits with lots of buttons to push, etc. JetBlue was awesome, live seatback TV, great snacks. We paid $178 per ticket taxes included, and least I could find from Ottawa was over $500 per ticket (and I'm a travel agent!!!)

I have 3 more trips coming in the next few months (I'm escorting groups!) and we are driving to Syracuse each time, and it's something I recomend to all my (summertime) clients as well. I'm not sure I'd do it in the winter (especially since we have a lovely direct flight from Ottawa on Westjet from Nov-April) but in the summer months with no risk of blizzard/freezing rain, etc, it's an easy drive and an easy way to save money.
