Synesthesia (also spelled synæsthesia or synaesthesia, plural synesthesiae or synaesthesiae)—from the Ancient Greek σύν (syn), meaning "with," and αἴσθησις (aisthēsis), meaning "sensation"'—is a neurologically-based phenomenon in which stimulation of one sensory or cognitive pathway leads to automatic, involuntary experiences in a second sensory or cognitive pathway. In one common form of synesthesia, known as grapheme → color synesthesia, letters or numbers are perceived as inherently colored, while in ordinal linguistic personification, numbers, days of the week and months of the year evoke personalities. In spatial-sequence, or number form synesthesia, numbers, months of the year, and/or days of the week elicit precise locations in space (for example, 1980 may be "farther away" than 1990), or may have a (three-dimensional) view of a year as a map (clockwise or counterclockwise).

when did you find out about synesthesia (that the phenomenon had a name)? i actually found it by reading post secret! there was a secret talking about how this person wished they could tell their crush that they had a crimson voice, but they didn't wanna sound weird. i realized that i had color connections to sounds too, i started studying it, and then i figured out that i have it too.
do you like it? it can be pretty cool.

my seven isn't that color. its more of a blueberry blue.
actually, sevens make me think of blueberries. lol

oh, i wish i could create a replica of the way i think about a calendar. its awesome.

i'm pretty spacial too. while letters don't so much have colors with me (some do, not all of them though.) they are spacial. like "q" is far away, but "r" is close. "8" is far away, and "2"s are close too.
 
I read about that in the book A Mango Shaped Space a few years ago. It was actually a really good book :)
I don't have synesthesia, but some numbers and letters do have colors to me, and some numbers and letters seem related? If that makes sense. Like 8 and r and 4 and h

I actually found out about it a year or so ago, when I heard an interview with John Mayer and he mentioned that he saw music as colours! So I looked that up on trusty ol' wikipedia and found out more about it.

I can't even imagine how amazing it must be to see music or voices in colours.

its like paintings that move.

heavy metal is like throwing paint on walls,
but john mayeresq music is like colors blending and bleeding and dancing

um. the closest i can get to visually showing you is the scene in ratatouille where they are tasting the food combinations, and its the black screen, and each flavor is a color dancing.

thats what music is like for me.

Also I'm BIG into music (I sing and play a few instruments, I'm going to be a music major in college) and music for me has colors and certain music sounds make me think of certain colors or shapes, to me music has 'layers'.
I also have a unique way of looking at the calendar.
I know it's not like really synesthia...but it's similar.

it sounds like a very mild case of it, with the way you were talking about music having a visual effect and being spacial.
 
I would like to experience it, but I wouldn't want an extreme case of it, and have it forever.

I view time as centuries in a timeline. Each century gets its own little timeline. Except for the 2000s - that timeline's still stuck with my 1900s timeline for some reason. But on this timeline, I can picture something significant, whether it be a war or culture in general.

Idk. Its weird.
 
my days of the week are spatially out of order compared to how the average person views them. (sun mon tues wed thur fri sat)

mine come like this:
tuesday is closet
then thursday.
saturday.
friday.
sunday
monday.
and wednesday.

i dislike wednesdays.

they're also colored. here are my colors

im not sure if thats exactly what i have but it sounds a bit close, when i hear a song like on the radio or on my iPod i dont see it in color, but if its stuck in my head and im not thinking of anything else its like a color slideshow in my head, and certain musical notes are colors for me. im also some numbers are 'warmer' for me, and some are ' cold ', but i dont have a preference. 4 is the only number that is not 'warm ' or ' cold ' for me. whereas 11 is cold ad 23 is warm. and my years are all varying degrees of red. and yeah i know i sound crazy :)

my days of the week are colored too. the majority of them are just whatever color the first letter of their name is, but some are different.

MONDAY TUESDAY WEDNESDAY THURSDAY FRIDAY SATURDAY SUNDAY
some of them are blends of colors. :p

also, music notes are usually the same color as they are in the alphabet, except for a few. i think they're influenced by the notes around them, lmao.

I don't know if anybody's heard of him, but there's this man named Daniel Tammet from the UK who has this disorder along with autism and is a savant. I watched the program Brainman from the Science Channel which was about his talents in math in my math class a few weeks ago. If you ever see it on, you should watch it, its pretty interesting. :)

I don't think I truly have very much of this at all, because although I do have colors that go with letters and numbers, I can't remember them even 5 seconds after. Ever. :goodvibes

I have the grapheme variation of synesthesia, so when I see or hear the letter A, I see red. Some people can 'taste' shapes, for example when they drink Diet Coke it could taste square to them. When some synesthetics see music, they see colors or shapes as they hear the music, and when others hear voices or certain sounds they get physical feelings, for example, if they heard a car horn, it could feel like light punches on their arm or something.

My brother just told me some things about it.
Its rare, most of it is imagining that.

I mean, when we hear low sounds, we usually tend to think dark colors, when we hear high sounds, we think light colors..

I kinda doubt that so many people on the dis have this thing.
Its a brain thing which is supposedly "rare".

Actually, it's thought that 1 in 2000 people have it, which is more common than it was thought to be.
And yes, I'm sure most of us imagine the same types of things we we hear certain sounds, but having those colors be the same since our first memories and having vivid experiences isn't something one can just make up. ;)

That test could easily be played mind tricks on you.
I always figure out how to screw with test results, and sometimes it messes with my brain to get what I think I want without knowing it.

I dunno...
I think some of it is rigged, and its imagination.

That's just my opinion, bash at my post, and you will most likely get "Its just an opinion, sue me and lock me away in jail for having one"
