Does anyone have any tips for getting chosen to be in the show? My son (5) LOVES the movie and has remarked that he hopes he's strong enough to get that sword out someday!

Thanks for any help-

If you could make him some kind of a tee shirt that says "I love Merlin" or something. Also, I know that the two times I have seen it the people picked were kind of hams who clearly wanted to be in the show. Good luck, I have the opposite problem, my very shy son lives in mortal fear he will be the one picked for such things! In fact when we saw it at Disneyland last year as soon as Merlin started looking through the audience my son stooped down to tie his shoe so he couldn't be seen!

My son was chosen to do this and it was one of the highlights of his trip. He is a ham--actually, he really likes people and is very personable. It didn't hurt though that he had just had a Kidney transplant and had to wear a surgical mask all over Disney. At first we didn't think he had been chosen because they chose a much older guy--probably late teens/early 20's. But then they did choose DS and when he pulled that sword out, the look on his face was PRICELESS! I hope you have good luck. Try to be there early and get up front. If you're in the back, they may not see your DS. Best of luck to you and your son!!!!

Actually both times I have seen it they pick two males, one adult and one kid. The adult is not able to pull the sword out but then the child is! Definitely get up front, not too hard to do, this usually doesn't draw much of a crowd and most people arrive after the show starts and draws folks in.

I had heard that Merlin picked the kids from the front row - about 1/3 of the way down from the right if you are facing Merlin. That is where we stood for 2 shows and while we didn't get picked, it was from that general area that a kid was chosed.

How often is this ceremony? Do they do it everyday? Are the times listed somewhere? Sorry for all of the questions but my ds(7) would love to see this!

When we were there and my DS got chosen, I'm pretty sure they did it on *almost* every hour. It is listed on the daily map and all the times are given then.

I have seen quite a few special needs kids get picked. It was probably my most touching moment of all when I saw it one day. Many folks in the crowd had tears when this one child was picked. You could tell it meant the world to him and touched my heart just watching.

It was very touching when they picked my DS--and it made his trip!!! He still looks back at the pictures and says things like "I can't believe that older kid couldn't pull it out but I could!!!" It's that Disney magic that has stayed with him. He's well now and no one would know that he's had a transplant. We're very thankful for the wonderful things that have happened to us at Disney--especially when he was so sick.

Yeah Merlin always does that. He'll pick the biggest, toughest, funniest looking guy who can't pull the sword out- and looks really funny! Especially when Merlin picks a little kid (boy OR girl) who can then pull the sword out (halfway). The show usually runs about 6 times a day, 3-4 days a week. When I was there in January, the show was on Tues-Thurs and was 11:15 am, 12:15, 1:15, 2:15, 4 pm, and 5 pm. Good Luck! :wizard:
