Switching to Package

So, I booked our room today and told the CM that I would be switching to a package later. My question is, when do I have to do that by? We aren't traveling until February, so, can I wait and change my ROR to a package in January?

When I wated to do this, the CM told me that I would have to cancel my room only reservation and that money could not be credited to the package res. I would have to just get a refund on my previous deposit.
