Switching studio to 2 bedroom

I suspect I will have the following problem when I begin booking:

I think I would normally book a studio 7 or 11 months out. Then a few weeks before, other family members may want to join us (they can't plan as far in advance or won't commit to it until about a month before the date).

Can you easily change a studio to a 2 bedroom? What are the main concerns with this, limitations, etc.? Is it easier to add on then vice-versa?

If you are going to wait until 30 days ahead to change your reservations, it's really a matter of luck of the draw. It depends on what time of the year you are planning on going to WDW, and how much you care about where you are staying. If it's during a busy period for DVC (F&W Festival, First 2 weeks of December), it may be next to impossible to find a 2BR or a studio.

The best bet may be for you to book a studio and a 1 BR early on, and then cancel the 1BR if you end up not needing it. It will cost you more points, but at least you'll know you have what you need. Depending on your UY, if you have to cancel the 1 BR, you might be able bank the points for use the next year.

Personally, I wouldn't worry to much about providing rooms for people who can't make up their minds until 30 days before the trip. That would be way too stressful for me!

Good luck!

Yes, I know. It is stressful. Unfortunately, I find I am much more of a planner than my close relations are. All the 2 br's at SSR look to be lock-offs, so would I be able to change a 2 br BR lockoff to a studio? In other words, downgrade?

how about 2 studios - they will sleep 8 to and be less points.

but generally yes - you can cancel - don't count on SSR being all 2-bedroom lock offs - DVC had too many problems with that system at BWV - I would expect some of the 2-bedrooms to be dedicated for families with small children who the parents don't want access to the outside.

No. It just doesn't work this way. This is because others may be on the waitlist. If you were to cancel a 2BR lockoff, MS would have to look to see if anyone was on the waitlist for a 2 BR, 1BR or studio during your time period. You would essentially go to the bottom of the waitlist. The reasoning is, that this makes it a little more fair for everyone. That's why I suggested the studio and 1 BR reservation... if you have to cancel half, you will still have the other room reserved. The two studios would work also, but you would give up the living room, full kitchen and w/d. We always get at least a 1BR, because those things have become important to us.

you generally can't - you can only request them to be close together.

I think I remember that BWV on floor 3 - has some together - I think one is a dedicated studio - the one next to it is a studio/1bedroom.

Look on Doc's resort configuration for BCV.

Only the people who are working on SSR can tell you if they will have a dedicated studio next to a lock-out - that I would think they would.

We were on the first floor of BWV in January and the studios were next to each other.

I would take a different tack. I usually book a 2 bedroom at OKW and as it gets closer, if I have no guests coming, I switch to a 1 bedroom. Always try to do this more than 31 days before the ressie, and make sure you are still within your banking window.
