Switching Rooms

My wife and I (mid-40s) are going on the Dream in December with my parents (mid-to-late 70s). We booked both rooms with our placeholders from a previous cruise, so right now I am listed in a room with my dad and my wife is with my mom. We plan to switch room assignments when we get on board. Will the Guest Services Cast Member be able to switch my MagicBand+ to work on my new room once I switch? I realize Guest Services can supply me with a "blank" KTTW card to act as my room key, but that is not what I'm looking for.

Also, can the room assignment switch occur when we are at Port Everglades vs. waiting until we board?

You aren’t changing room assignments. You go to the Muster Drill (and in an evacuation, the life boat) as you reserved and paid for your cabin.

Any swapping of sleeping arrangements is purely done by you and not acknowledged officially.

Magic Band - is it already connected to your name?

You will be given KTTW cards whether you plan to use your Magic bands or not. Since Magic bands don’t know whose wrist they are on, you can always swap them. Then again, you could swap Magic bands before they are keyed to the room, then trade back after you board.

I understand that it isn't officially switching room assignments. For additional context, my dad and I are booked in a verandah room. My mom and wife are booked in an inside room. We'd like for my parents to be in the verandah and my wife and me to be in the inside room. Both rooms have the same muster station and are across the hall from each other.

Yes, my MagicBand+ is already connected to my name. I would like to use it to access my inside room and my mom will need access to the verandah room.

I asked at Guest Services on my last cruise and the Cast Member said it would be fine, but I wasn't 100% certain she understood my question. So I'm curious if others have experience with it.

My mom doesn't have a MagicBand+ and will plan on using her KTTW. Also, the swapping of MagicBands seems like it would be a problem if someone wants to charge something, right?

Those Magic Bands and room swapping! It was less complicated when people just got a blank card. And everyone just assigned room charges to individual credit cards.

It does help that you are aware and okay with the Muster Station.

I had a Magic Band on my last cruise. But definitely didn’t see it as any big help. It had to come off to buy anything (haven’t heard they have fixed that yet).

I totally understand the reasons to book this way - be it for onboard booking discount or Castaway benefits. And Disney doesn’t mention issues with it. But they have never seemed to help guests try to do what you are planning. Basically, it’s see nothing, do nothing from them. Other than here’s a blank /extra card.

If you find out a way around (or others share), maybe it can be made more known. There’s another thread where someone has a similar issue. Different scenario.

We did the same in January with our 2 adult sons so we could all get the platinum perks. When I asked about switching out my husband and son at guest services, they just gave me 2 additional key cards - one for each cabin. They would not officially switch people around.

It was a pain, honestly. My husband and son had to carry around 2 key cards. Their original key card for exiting/entering the ship, doing excursions, charging and checking in for drink classes. Then they had to keep up with the new key card for entering their actual cabin they were sleeping in. We did get everyone a free palo dinner though. Not sure I would go to the trouble again.

They cannot change the room your magicband is attached to, and will give you a card to access the other room. Had this issue when we sailed on the Wish recently.

We figure this is the worst case scenario, and it's really not that bad from our perspective. We like using our MagicBands so we don't have to carry a card around with us, but we also carried a KTTW with us for our first seven cruises and it was never an issue. Adding a second one in a card holder on a lanyard is minimal inconvenience for us. And we might still be able to do something where two of the four of us can utilize MagicBands, even if they are not that person's specific MagicBand.

We'll be sure to have proper ID when we get off the ship. And we'll make sure credit cards are linked appropriately for charging, although at least me and my wife don't usually have many charges besides the auto gratuity for servers and stateroom host.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Fingers crossed we get a different answer, but we're not expecting it.

OK, so following up on this question as we are in the same boat (ha ha). DS2 is booked in room 2 with DS1 and spouse so we can book everything under DS2 castaway club level but DS2 will be staying in room 1 (my room along with my hubby).

Please let me know if I am correct in the following:
1. He can use his magicband+/KTTWC for on/off ship, purchases, etc (he will link a cc to his name)
2. I can get an extra KTTWC for him to enter the room he will sleep in (mine)
3. Muster station will be booked room (hopefully same as mine as we are connecting staterooms)

Am I missing anything. I think that will work for us if the above is correct.

Thanks!

It will just be a room keycard. It will not have his charging privileges, on/off ship, etc. He will need to use the original card issued to him for those things.

You don’t mention age — if he is a minor your older son will need to sign an authorization to let you (his parents) take him off the ship. And for Club/Lab check-out if that young.
