We are considering a photo package. We have two rooms; I have read that, unlike Memory Maker on land, the photo packages are not able to be used for multiple rooms, extended family, etc. You have to purchase multiple packages.

Question 1: is this true, even if one party purchased and paid for both rooms? I wasn't able to find a clear answer on that.

Next question is this: I read that essentially they keep it limited to immediate family. But, one exception is if one of the children is staying in the same room with Grandma and Grandpa, for example. In that case, both rooms are considered under the same photo package.

Currently our room setup is this: 3 Adults in Room 1 (Sleeps 3). 2 Adults, 2 children in Room 2 (Sleeps 4). So, it's not as easy as just switching one of the kids into Room 1. We would have to switch, on the reservation at least, 1 Adult into Room 2, and 1 child into Room 1. Is this possible, without completely jacking up the reservations?

We are in a similar situation for our upcoming cruise. My wife, myself, and our youngest are in Stateroom 1, and my parents and oldest son are in Stateroom 2. We were told/did the following- we purchased the unlimited photo package for our stateroom (stateroom 1). Because our older son is our child, he is added to the photo package even though he is in Stateroom 2. My parents, however are not. What that means- we can get pictures of any of the 4 of us, AND we can get pictures with my parents, but no pictures of JUST my parents. In the end, it works out OK, as my parents aren't all that interested in individual photos/just the two of them. We tend to get a few family/kid pictures taken, but primarily will get photos as the entire group.

Right. The problem is we are already booked the way I described. We are booked and paid off already. So, I guess I am wondering the difficulty of switching things around so things are set up the way you set it up. Because one of the kids will have to be in the grandparents' room for it to work. And it's not currently set up that way.

I guess it would depend on which adults are in Room 1, and Room 2 (you weren't clear about what the relations of the people in Room1/2 are).

If parents of kids are in Room 1, and kids are in Room 2, you can get the pass for Room 1 (and all adults in Room 1 can take individual pictures, as can the kids as they are directly related). If Parents + kids are in room 2, you could take individual pictures of everyone in room 2, and group pictures (including at least 1 room 2 person) for people in room 1.

From my understanding, at least 1 person in a stateroom with the photo package, or 1 child of a person in the stateroom with the photo package has to be in the picture.

If it is some other arrangement, then yes, you might have to re-arrange, and I dont think that is easily possible (from what I've heard, it involves cancelling out the individuals reservation, and making a new one).

Yeah, that's kind of what I figured. And, if the price has gone up, it's probably going to be cheaper to just buy the second package.

It's Gpa, Gma, and Aunt in 1 room. Mom, Dad, and kids in the next room.

With that combo, I dont think there is any way to get it all on one Photo Package. We looked at getting the photo package for the other stateroom (Gma, Gpa, and oldest son) thinking in the other room you have brother + mom + dad of oldest son.. but we were told they wouldn't allow it. So I think no matter how you place people in staterooms, your best bet is either:
  1. Buy a package for each stateroom. Then anyone can take an individual or group picture.
  2. Buy a package for mom/dad/kids room. Then that stateroom can take individual photos, but Gpa, Gma, Aunt would need to be in a picture with at least Mom, Dad, or one of the kids.
Someone else will have to verify, but I thought I read in a post here that you could buy the second stateroom's photo package at a discount on the ship. Again, I am not positive about this, but it might be worth looking into.

I don't think you can get all the adults onto 1 photo package anyway. But I also don't think it will be easy to switch people around even if that would have your desired result. I believe DCL will consider it a cancel/add to switch guests around, and subject to prevailing rates. If you are past the PIF date, that means subject to penalties as well.

I suggest you buy the first photo package in advance. Then once onboard the 2nd stateroom can purchase it for 50%.

Enjoy your cruise!

Here's the reality. Even if both your kids were in their grandparents' room, the grandparents won't be able to be included except if someone from your room is in the photo. So... don't change the rooms, just make sure someone's in the photo with them.

Now, if you were hoping to get at least on adult form the other room on your package so they can have individual shots, that's a different matter.

You should know, though, once on board, you can purchase a second unlimited package for the other room at half price. Or, just make sure someone from your room is in the photo and for the few individual shots of members of the other room, just buy those photos. I believe the prices listed on the website are only a discount for the unlimited, so you will have a good idea of the price of, say 10 shots for the other room.

Gotcha. One more question. Well two.

Back to the original question. Does it matter if both staterooms were paid by the same person under the same account? (Ie: not two separate bookings that have been linked after the fact)

Secondly, does it use facial recognition at all, or does it go strictly by stateroom # or...? Here is an example. Kiddos are with grandma and grandpa by themselves, while others are at The District or whatever. Gma, Gpa, kids decide to get a picture done and give them grandma and grandpa's KTTW card. Will it automatically show up on the correct stateroom's photo library? Or is there another way to make sure it's on there?

I think there is some facial recognition. You might have to go looking for the photo, though. They have an area where you can review what's on your file and you used to be able to see via the stateroom, so if the photos are missing and they have your kids in them, you can have them put into your file.

It doesn't matter who pays for the stateroom.

Even though both rooms were paid for by the same person, each room is it's own reservation.

We’ve been on 2 cruises with the following split Room # 1= Mom, Dad + 2 kids, Room #2= Grandma + 2 kids. We’ve linked the photo package to both rooms and for both cruises we got all the pictures including all of the photos of my mom on her own which we didn’t expect. I don’t know if this was a fluke but if so it happened twice.

For question1, no it does not matter.
For question 2, in that instance just make sure it is the child's Key to the World card that they scan and it will show up on your account.
Edited to add, you can also ask them to manually add photos that include your children to your account if the grandparents use their own key for the photos, but it's easier to just use the right key to begin with.

In SEptember on the Magic they were just asking stateroom numbers.

Yeah this is something I read as well. That's why I was considering trying to do a switcheroo.

But, if it requires a cancel/re-schedule, A) I don't want to take a chance our room goes into GT holding and lose our rooms B) The price increase would probably cancel out any savings.

Why don't you just switch the rooms when you get to port? Our rooms were all messed up since my MIL placed everyone to get the best prices...and when we got to port, everyone was officially moved before we got on the boat... And anyway, it is better to get the second package on the boat if that's what you have to do, because of the discount (no point to order in advance).

Also, we did 3 full packages and then my in-laws in the 4th room were unofficially included in my SIL's package.

Do you mean when we check in at port, they can do that?

Our two groups will not be arriving at the same time, so I dunno how much of a hassle that would be. We are arriving from the airport, while my sister's family will be coming from AKV. Could be a couple hour difference. Could the switch be done after we get on the boat at guest services?

So we all arrived at the same time and they did it before we got on the boat. I would think they should also be able to do it on the boat (but someone else should be able to confirm).
