Switching rooms at the same resort?

Has anyone had to book 2 separate reservations for a resort and actually had to switch rooms?

I tried to add a night at the beginning of our 6 night trip and the only way to do that apparently is to make a entirely new room only reservation for the one night. No way to combine the reservations per guest services, even with same category rooms.

I don’t mind that but I really do not want to switch rooms mid-trip. We are staying at Pop.

Does anyone have any experience with this you can share? Thanks.

Yes it can and does happen that you "May" need to switch rooms.

However Disney does not want to have you move any more than you want to change rooms. It costs Disney to move you vs just keeping you in the same room as a continuing reservation.

You should make sure that both reservations are updated to indicate they are what are know as a continuing reservation. Call back and make sure the related reservation is indicated on each reservation. A very simple step.

Check again on check-in day at the resort and again in the morning of the reservation change.

Thank you.

We were able to stay in the same room. We added a night prior to our original date and all was well.

This may be a naïve response...but have you tried calling Disney customer service? They might be able to program a single room whereas the online system might not.

Our last trip we had 8 nights booked at Pop and wanted to add a night but Pop was full so we booked at an All-Stars. When we checked in at Pop I asked about luggage transfer and explained our situation. They checked and they had room for us to stay at Pop but could not ensure we'd have the same room so we might need to move. We accepted the offer to stay at Pop (were not charged the extra cost that a Pop room cost) and in the end we didn't need to change rooms. We were advised we could stay in the same room the day before we would have had to move.

As others have said, they will try to keep you in the same room for your sake and theirs but it's not guaranteed.

I've booked two (and three) different reservations at the same resort. You should call Disney reservations and have them make a "continuing stay" notation on each reservation. This will indicate to the room assigner that you have more than one reservation. You should also let the cast member checking you in know that you would like to stay in the same room for the entirety of your stay.

The OP @Elle23 already spoke to Guest Services. They are the next level above the regular phone CMs.

Had this happen at CR two years ago. We brought our concern of switching rooms up when we checked in. The front desk personnel (wonderful lady named Virginia) took some minutes and was able to get both reservations pulled together so we could be in the same room for all days. We were most appreciative as we were the ones that added days and had the two reservations. I hope someone at Pop can do the same for you. My one and only stay at Pop was great. Super people. My bill at the end of the week was different that what I was told on the internet letter. They were very nice and rectified the issue.

Worst case and you do have to move will be a hassle but not a complete fun sucker. :)

We moved rooms once at All-Star Sports by choice after 2 nights to get a room location we really wanted for the remainder of our stay.

VERY easy-we were instructed to place our bags in front of the window, open the Curtain and go about our day and the bags would be moved to our new room.

We returned from the Parks late PM,went to our new room and there were the bags.:)

Thank you so much for all of the replies! I feel much better about the situation now.

I did contact guest services and even spoke to a manager and they said the first reservation and the added night are on 2 different dated discount packages so they could not combine them into one reservation. That may be something to consider when choosing dates in the future.

Just remember ten seconds or less after you make your reservation for a given room type at a given resort thousands of people just did the same thing. And someone somewhere is assigned to the room you are in prior to your arrival and jsut after you leave. Remember your talking about thousands and thousands of people making reservations before and after you. They really don't have an incredible amount of flexabilty. Everyone looks at Disney as if they have thousands of rooms available for them to play with and shuffle around. This could be no further from the truth. They will try but you can't get upset if they can't give you a room that has been previously assigned to another guest.
