Switching room only to package

I booked my room only ressie with AAA yesterday. The agent told me that if I paid the one night deposit via check then Disney would just transfer the money over when I switch to a package. However, if I paid by credit card, it would be cancelled and my card refunded and then rebooked. Disney places a hold on the room for 14 days to allow time for your check to get there.

I don't know if this is correct but it sounded like she has done this numerous times. I liked the idea of not having to cancel the room only to switch to the package so I ran a check right over to the AAA office for them to send.

The reservation will always be cancelled, deposit refunded, new reservation booked, new deposit taken. Now I would think with cash/check they have the ability to refund it then immediately reapply it but I haven't heard that as being the case so I dont know.

Securing an aaa discounted room does not guarantee you an aaa discounted package. There are x number of aaa rooms and y number of aaa packages available so if you book a room in x category when you decide to get a package instead, y category may be depleted and you may not be able to do that.

If you know you want a package always book that to begin with. If this is a problem with not being able to book 2008 packages, no one else can either and as I said booking a room only now does not hold a package aaa rate room for you. If you are worried about how much money you have to put out when, book each room with one person and a 1 day base ticket, and don't add the ddp and other people until 6 days before you head to Disney.

My AAA TA told us not we could not book a package until the 2008 rates came out (our trip is the first week in Feb.) She said it was best to book the room first to assure us that there would be one and then as soon as the new rates come out (August??) she would convert the room to a package.

I am not sure how the AAA works but I can add this information.....

I booked a room only 2008 stay at the Wilderness Lodge about two weeks ago. (got tired of waiting for the 2008 rates to come out). I paid $298.??? (cost of the first night) by credit card.

When the 2008 package prices come out, I will call 407-W-DISNEY to book a package. The CM said they will cancel the room only reservation and refund my credit card. They will then take that same room I had reserved and book it for me as part of a package. I will then have 14 days to put down the $200.00 package deposit.

I asked the CM if I would have my $298.??? refund within the 14 days and she said absolutely. I am probably not going to chance it though and will just go ahead and pay the package deposit.

It's supposed to be really simple.
