Switching Resorts?

We are going to be in Disney for 7 nights and are thinking about staying at the ASMo for 4 or 5 nights and then switching to the WL for 2 ot 3 nights. I have never switched rooms before and am pretty nervous about it. We ahve 2 small children with lots of luggage and bags. is it worth switching resorts or just better to stay in one? And if we do switch which hotel would be better to stay at first? thanks

Let me preface my comments with the fact that I love to split a stay between two or three resorts. To me, it is like getting multiple vacations while only taking one. That said, I think you could guess that I would say there is nothing to moving. That is, as long as you have transportation. We always drive the minivan, so all we do on the morning of the switch is get up, shower, empty all of the dressers and closet, cram the stuff into suitcases and any laundry bags we've gotten from Mousekeeping (have separate bags for dirty stuff that can remain in the van), call bell services to pick up the luggage, I go get the van, while my wife and daughter await the bellman, by the time I have the van to the front of the resort, the luggage is there waiting, we load, I tip the bellman, ask for directions, and we're off. Upon arriving at the new resort, we deposit what goes in with bell services and I go park while my wife gets in line to check in. By the time I park and get to the lobby, she is usually finished or just finishing up. After check-in, we grab breakfast and head to a park. Then we call later in the day from the cell phone to find out which room we were assigned. Once arriving at the room, we call bell services and have the luggage delivered. No Problems:D

If you don't have your own transportation, then you just check your stuff at the resort you are leaving and have them transport it to the new resort. Go check in to the new place and then go play.

I would definitely let the hotel move your luggage for you, even you you have a car. You would still have to pack it up though, but you could check out of ASMU in the morning and leave you're luggage with them. After your day in the park, you return to WL and your luggage will be waiting for you. If you are going to do it, I would make your WL stay at least 3 days.

We have switched resorts a few times (even with the kids) and I definitely think it is worth the effort. I do think that the best plan is to go from the value to the moderate - it's like having a little extra treat at the end of the vacation! The one time we went "down" from deluxe to moderate I did not enjoy it as much. Good Luck!

I will second swilphil on letting the hotel move evrything for you! Yeah, you will still need to pack everything up, but then bell services can come and get it and deliver it to your room at WL. I also agree that you might want to do WL for the 3 days if you can swing it. As for the sequence, I vote for All Stars first then finishing in luxury at WL; after being at WL for a few days, you will miss it as soon as you move out, so best to have that last.

While it's nice to have a car available to you, Disney Transportation (out friends in the Purple Pants) will take good care of you, with frequent bus service to all of the All Stars, and bus and boat service to WL. So unless you're going to be venturing off site for some reason (the best reason might be groceries!), leave the driving to the Disney purple pants folks.

Good luck!
