Switching Resorts - Two Questions

We have a split stay booked in August with the 1st stay at AKV and the 2nd at BLT. I have two questions regarding the switch:

1) We are planning on using the dining plan for the whole stay. On the day we check out of AKV and into BLT are we going to end up with two doses of the DP?

2) I have read a few older posts that talk about Bell Services moving luggage from one Disney Resort to the other for free. Is this policy still in effect? We were hoping to only rent a car for the first few days.

Thanks in advance
Jess

1- Not quite. You get the dining plan for the number of nights you stay. Your first dining plan will expire at midnight of the day you check out of the first resort. Your second plan will start once you check in at the new resort. So you will have a little overlap, but you still have your arrival day and departure day to share the credits.

2- Bell Services will move your stuff to the new resort.

We have done a split stay with the dining plan at both resorts and its really not too much of a hassle.

We did bring a Sharpie marker and mark the cards from the first resort so that we were sure to use up those credits on our switch day since we knew those would expire at midnight and didn't want to accidently lose any of them.

Consider using the dining plan for the first half on your stay and getting the car for your second half.

The DDP really is a lot of food and you feel like all you are doing is eating. You can eat a home but you can't Disney at home.

Your DDP credits are valid on your check in day at the second resort plus you can use the car to pick up a few items at the store, and to move you and check in at the second resort.

That's what we do and it works well. In December we stayed a 4 different resorts and a car really makes it easy.

Thanks all. Our current plan is to have the QS DP while styling at AKV and then have the regular DP for the BLT where there are more restaurants in closer proximity. We have done the DP several times before, so we are aware of the amount of food, but we are really good at spacing - early lunch, normal-to-lateish supper.

The way our ressie is currently, the first night at BLT is actually on a separate reservation number (I added it online after the fact and have not yet called MS to merge it with rest of our BLT stay). I wonder if they will let me keep it that way & I wont get a DP for that one night so I won't be stuck with 2 dining plans on the same day.

Interesting, because I would do it exactly the opposite. My favorite restaurants in Disney are at AKl/AKV, so I'd want those signature dinners while I was there and save the QS for those days when I'm closer to the parks and QS restaurants.

Unfortunately my 9 year old son does not like the AKV sit down restuarants so we will not be going to any of them :(

No, they will no longer allow you to have the DDP for just one night unless you are switching resorts and/or room types.

Again, the only carryover credits you have will be ones that don't get used during those first few days but it wasn't really that big of a deal.

The only glitch, if you can call it one, is that you can't use DDP credits from the different stays for the same order. So, if on the check out/check in day, you have 3 CS credits left on the AKV card (which will expire at midnight that night) and need to order 4 meals and use 1 CS credit from the BLT card, you will have to do them as separate orders.

Good luck and have fun.

We did a plit stay at the end of November. Make sure you know what DDP credits you expect to use each day and from what stay. We had reservations that took two credits and I almost made reservations that would not have given us enough credits when I needed them. You will also need to check into your second resort to get your second DDP plan.

As for bell services, they will not deliver your luggage to your room at the second resort. You need to call down (or stop by) to ask them to bring it up. They will not deliver to an empty room. We were coming back late from the parks on our fist night (of the second stay) and I realized that we never got our luggage. I got to bell services 10 minutes before they closed for the night.

Bell Services will never deliver luggage without an adult being present because they want to collect a tip. DME is an exception because the tip is pre-paid by Disney.
