Do you have to have extra points available to be able to do this? I'm confused how you can book a resort at 7 months if you already have your home resort points used for a reservation that was booked at 11 months. Is there a way to do it safely?

There is the 2 browser method. What you can do is in one browser pull up the booking page and select the new resort stay you want. Select the room and when you're at the page to select the points to use you go to a second browser (or device - I actually prefer different device and will use my PC for one session and Ipad for the other) and cancel the other reservation at your home resort. Then go back to the first session where you are holding the new room and refresh the page and your cancelled points will show up and be available to use.

You do have to cross your fingers that the website won't have some issue and freeze up or suddenly decide to log you out but if it all works correctly you can make the switch and use the points.

If you did have enough points to book the new resort that's absolutely the safest. And if there were points in the other reservation you wanted to use you could call in to MS and ask them to reallocate and switch them.

Do a search for "two browser method". It should work to hold your new reservation while canceling the old one. Not everyone has extra points to be able to book a new reservation while holding another.

This makes sense. Sounds a little risky though. Especially if you have a peak time period like fall frenzy booked. Thanks for the information!

ETA: After thinking about this for a few more minutes, I'm wondering how refreshing the page wouldn't cancel the 20 minute hold.

Marionnette, I did search it, but all I'm getting is information from 2015-2017. Just wondering if anything has changed since then.

Your refreshing the page where you select the points, not the page where it's giving you the options to select a room. I've done it as have many others and it works.

Ok, I think I understand. It's just scary to think about losing your existing reservation. Knowing me, I'll mess it up. I did research something that said that you can click Borrow, but then after cancelling the existing reservation, cancel the borrow pop-up box, and it will refresh your points. Do you know if that will work, too?

I've never done it that way so don't know. It sounds like it essentially refreshes after you cancel the borrowing.

This is the method I have always used, and it works great! I don’t like the idea of refreshing the point picking page either!

Thanks for this info. I just did it with my Dec res using the borrow points and it worked great!
