Switching cash resv to points resv?

I think I know the answer to this, but thought I'd check to be sure. This is a way-to-obvious work-around-the-system plan in my mind.

I'm a BCV owner and am needing a reservation for 3 rooms at BCV, but only have enough points (even after banking/borrowing) for 1 room. Could I book the other 2 rooms as a cash reservation, get a transfer of points from another renter (whose home resort is not BCV), then at the 7-month mark switch the cash ressie to a points ressie with the rented points?

As stated, I'm pretty sure the answer to this would be no, but just wanted to check to be sure. I think my only option is to get a points transfer from a member whose home resort is BCV to be able to guarantee getting all 3 room there. Do you see any other plan that might work? (And, no, DH won't let me add on points right now!)

No, you can't "switch" it, they come from different inventories. If there is points availability at 7 months, you could cancel the cash reservation and rebook it with points. But if there is no points availability, it would not open up a points room when you cancelled the cash one.

Thanks, Debbie. I thought there would be some reason it wouldn't work - or else everyone would be holding a room until they found distress points cheap to "switch" - but just wanted to make sure my devious mind hadn't stumbled across a new master plan to get everything I want for under $50 a night! :lmao:

If it's 24 points or less that you need, couldn't you "rent" from Disney under their new program? :confused3 It would not be a purchase.
From the DVC website...
"This new option, designed as an alternative to borrowing from next year's allotment, allows Members the option of paying for a one-time assignment of as many as 24 vacation points from Disney Vacation Development, Inc., for $15 a vacation point ($13.33 plus $1.67 tax) to complete their reservation. (A receipt is available upon request.)"

Unfortunately, I need closer to 150 points. So, looks like I'll be searching out a transfer/rental of points.

Good luck with your plans! Post an update to see how your stay shakes out:thumbsup2
