Switched Ressies from AKL to Poly - Now What?

Just when I thought I had everything squared away about resort choices (AKL savannah view), my DH took a look at the WDW vacation planner DVD today and fell in love with the Poly. I called CRO and was able to get a Poly garden view room for $239.00 per night for May 8-13.

Now that we've switched to the Poly, I'm not sure what to expect. :confused3 Don't get me wrong, the Poly looks like a great hotel, but since I've only researched the AKL, I don't really know what the Poly offers - besides the convenient monorail service.

Are there activities for the kids (DS-12, DD-4)? How are the restaurants? Any advice is welcomed.

I would go to the resorts section of this Forum and read the Polynesian info, also go to Tikiman's site and possibly Deb Wills. She has some great photos.

Then come back and ask any questions, there are many here who frequent this resort often.

How did you get that rate? Do you have a postcard/pin rate?

Ilovestitch,

I received a postcard rate for the value resorts and it was applied to the Poly.

Oh ok, that's awesome they let you do that. I was thinking for a minute that I might have missed the AP rates or something :earseek:

We stayed at the Polynesian in December and are staying there again in May, the same time you are. You will love the Polynesian, its the best resort- you will be spoiled by the convenient transportation and the CMs were so friendly. They had lots of fun activites going on- like hula dancing in the lobby on Saturday mornings. Have you decided which longhouse you want to stay in yet? :flower: -Steph

Best move you ever made. Poly is about the best, being on the monorail and that close to MK. Stay at the AKL last visit for 3 night before switching to the Poly for 6 nights and couldn't get out of AKL fast enough.. To me, it seemed my Disney Vacation didn't begin until I checked into the Poly, like I lost 3 days by staying at AKL. Far away, long trips anywhere and nothing to do but wait for a bus to here and there. Poly is the best ticket and your DH and you will adore it, research or not, hands down, let me know if you had a bad time or could find nothing to do. Just the View of the MK from the wedding hill at night, fireworks from your beach of Wishes or the nightly water pageant are sights to behold.

I just got back last night from our stay at the Poly. We had a wonderful time and the Poly is my new favorite Disney Resort!! We had a garden view room in Rapa Nui longhouse, 3rd floor looking north.

Points to Like about the Poly
1. Tikiman has made a great website so you can find out everything you want about it.

2. It brings a tropical relaxation to what can be a hectic Disney vacation.

3. You can ride the monorail easily to MK or Epcot.

4. Boat ride to MK on the small launch is fabulous

5. O'hana's is a great restraurant

6. Volcano pool with slide overlooking the bay is great.

7. Rooms are very spacious and well-themed.

8. They now have coffee makers and fridges for free.

9.Lots of fun activities for families and kids, including a nice arcade (we were the O'hana family for the torch lighting ceremony)

10. They have a nice "beach" where you can relax on a hammock, or watch water parade or fireworks.

11. You can rent those little boats at the dock by the pool

And probably a whole lot more that we have yet to find out about. Trust me on this one, your going to be happy you switched!

I would second all of the reasons that disDRw chooses the Polynesian. These are exactly why we have chosen the Poly so many times. Have fun! Threehearts

dreaming disney...i have stayed at both...you won't be dissapointed...liked the AKL....love the poly...it is so much fun.... amy

Ilovestitch,

I just requested the Fiji Longhouse (3rd floor) this morning. I saw the pictures on Tikiman's site and they looked great.

Everyone,

Thanks so much for all your comments. I think I'm getting more excited about the Poly than I was about AKL. Can't wait! :cool1:

That's where we stayed in December. We were 3rd floor Fiji room 3318 i think, right across from the elevator. From the balcony we had a great view of the marina, the Contemporary, Space Mountain and the Electric Water Pageant!
