princess: A couple of days ago I switched our room reservations from the Coronado Spings to Pop Century in order to take advantage of the Fall discount Disney had to offer. I saved us almost $600.00. They did not have any savings for me to apply to our initial reservation at Coronado Springs. and now I am wondering how Pop Century compares to Coronado Springs? I guess it really doesn't matter considering the great savings but I do not understand why the discount could not be applied to my original reservation? Thanks to all who reply

I can't help you with questions about either resort, but the POP has a great thread under FAQ. Just about everything you could ever want/need to know is in that one.

The reason for not being able to apply the discount to the 1st ressie is there may not have been any rooms available with the codes. They only have then on a limitted basis. If you want the other keep checking back and you may get it. I did and was able to get the resort I wanted with the discount.

I've stayed at both & enjoy different aspects of each. Prefer POP's food court over the Pepper Market @ CSR. Prefer the Dig Site & pool bar @ CSR over POP, due to the great slide & being able to refil my mug @ Siesta's. Love the 1 bus stop @ POP. Love the beaches & cabana section @ CSR. Rooms are slightly larger @ CSR. POP is brand new - there's things to love about both. I think saving $600 is reason enough to love POP! Try it - we stayed in the 50's section, bldg. B, on the top floor. Our room overlooked the lake & we could see Illuminations fireworks every night if we walked to the end of our breezeway - it was nice, new, & quiet.:D

We just stayed at both Pop and CSR this past July. We added two days onto our trip at the last minute and couldn't get our discount at CSR so we stayed at Pop for their discount. To me, there is no comparison between Pop and CSR. Coronado wins hands down - BUT - it depends on what is important to you ! They both are up to the usual high Disney standards but Coronado has a more resort feel compared to Pop. If you have little ones that will pretty much just hit the parks, take a quick dip at the pool then off to bed, then Pop should be great for you. We loved the more upscale feel of Coronado - it was a lot more relaxing, quiet and impressive. I do agree that when it comes to saving $600, that might be enough to determine where to stay !! Either way I know you'll have a good time at Pop or CSR. I'd still keep calling CRO to see if you are able to get a break at CSR - Everyone on the boards always says "You never know !!" Give it a try - maybe you will get lucky !! Best wishes !!:wave2:

We stayed at the POP last FEb after much apprehension. Although I've enver stayed at the CSR, over the years I have stayed at CBR and POFQ, as well as almost all the Deluxe Resorts.

The POP is different, but I also stayed there to save money - on a last minute winter long weekend. I hated the drive up the POP -UGLY - BUT like another member we stayed in the 50's section, bldg. B, on the top floor. Our room overlooked the lake & we could see Illuminations fireworks every night - there were other fireworks too, we think maybe from MGM - not sure, but we saw 2 sets of fireworks plus Illuminations. Not bad for the price. I did get used to the POP and enjoyed the stay. It was new, clean and fresh. Be prepared for the plastic cups! Request the animal towels and it will feel great to see thsoe when you walk in the door. Oh, also in the 50's building, lake view, it was very quiet unlike the preferred rooms by the pool. we sat by the pool early mornings and it was lovely!

ENJOY!!!

heading to POFQ 9/27 :sunny:

BaciBecky-that's too funny! Although we enjoyed our POP stay (we're the ones who also stayed in 50's ,top floor...), those darn plastic cups really bug me!:p

I stayed at the POP in January and it was ok. I mean it's a value resort, the walls were a little thin but other than that it was great! It's a great hotel to stroll down memory lane at, and if you want a more romantic walk, try a walk down by the water around the back of the hotel. Make sure you try the outdoor twister! Over all its a very unique hotel you will never run out of things to look at!

Have fun! And make sure you spend that $600 you saved on something special to remember your trip by like a "cell' from DDT. That's what I always do when i save money, Reward myself!

So have fun and take lots of pics!

I've never stayed at the Coronado but I just love the Pop Century. Rooms are a little small but CLEAN. That is most important to me anyway. Pools are great. They have the jet pool (water fountains kids can play in) Awesome place for kids. My 1 year old loved it - so did I. I am going back next week.

I've never stayed at CSR but did stay at CBR, POFQ and Pop. Pop is my new favoriate resort. I liked the others very much, but Pop Century was my cup of tea. I loved the pool area and the whole feel of the resort (it's a lot of fun). I really looked forward the going back to my room at the end of the day and hanging out at the pool. The lobby, gift shop and food court are the best I've ever seen. Pop Century is really great, you will not be disappointed. I liked it better then the moderate resorts I stayed at. It didn't seem like a value resort at all.

You will have a great time and will probably want to go back there instead of the moderates.

Have fun.

We have stayed at both..recently..and we like Pop much better than coronado springs. Pop has a much better, more convenient layout. Better tasting food in the food court.

Coronado..large and sprawling..not conveniently laid out at all.
Food court items are mediocre at best and over priced.

TWOOD - Ahhh....what is it about those plastic cups???

It really took away some of the "magic" for me - if they would use glass cups it would not feel so much like a motel. :(

It's true, as someone else wrote (sorry, I forgot who), but when you walk to the back by the lake and stoll over the Generations Bridge it does not feel like a value resort. When the new section opens I might go for another long weekend. I'm wondering if I'll like the theme better. Not crazy about the Food Court or Gift Shop - food court was a bit too loud for me. No problem with room noise.

Anyway, I like trying almost (have not and will not stay at any of the AS) all the Resorts, with the Poly still my favorite - even after all these years.

It's nice to read that others enjoy staying at a variety of Resorts and not only the Deluxe!
