Swine Flu: Poll

Who do you know who has tested positive for H1N1

  • Someone in my immediate family has/had swine flu!

  • Someone in my extended family has/had swine flu!

  • I heard my mother's, brother's, best friend's, uncle's, dog has/had swine flu!

  • Haven't heard of anyone around here having swine flu!

Results are only viewable after voting.
No one in my family.

But several co-workers, kids on DS's baseball team, etc.

I would have voted if there was a maybe someone in my immediate family. My son had a low grade fever for a few hours on Sunday, mild sore throat, cough, mild headache, and slight chills. His doctor didn't have any test kits but put him on tamiflu because of his asthma. I wish I knew if it was it or not because it is rampant at our school right now.

I am the Director of Auxiliary Services for a community college - I know several people (residence hall students and child development center children) who have tested positive for H1N1 and tons more who are sick but have not been tested. We only had 6 children in the entire center (enrolled over 50 children) last Monday. Lots of sick people in our area

The doctors here aren't even testing anymore unless the person needs to be hospitalized. So many people are saying that the doctor believes they have H1N1, but no one knows for sure. The doc told my friend she had it a few weeks ago, but I suspected she just had a bad cold. Now sick again and this time she's worse, so does that mean this time it really is H1N1? :confused3

Since the doctors seem to be telling everyone who is sick that they probably have H1N1, many people will not be getting the vaccine now, but I suspect lots of those people don't even have H1N1.

Several people I know have been sick, as many are this time of the year anyway. Only one person I know who was actually tested had a positive result.

We are about 99% sure our DS14 had this last week-he had all the symptoms and the seasonal flu is not in our area. DD14 had the same thing the week before so we are 98% sure she had it as well. We took DS into the dr since he has asthma and he was given Tamiflu and was feeling significantly better by the end of the day. I don't know if Tamiflu would have that effect on a bad cold.

We came back from a week at Disney on Oct. 17. The next day my 2 boys came down with fevers, cold, headache etc. One of my daughters had a 104 degree fever today. Only people (knock on wood) that haven't gotten it are myself, DH and other DD. They are not testing anymore here as the system is backlogged. Unfortunately I think we may have gotten swine flu at Disney :sad2: At least it came after the trip! We had a blast. Wish I was still there.

I'm sure its here, just not officially.

I really think it was here in January/February of this year but the media hadn't "hyped" it up and we all just thought it was the flu (which basically it is)

I dont know anyone who's had it yet.. there MAY have been one person in the kids school who has had it. I called and they said the parents didn't call to let the school know so we aren't really sure. I heard it from someone at the bus stop.

My nephew has had it. And there are numerous cases in the kids elementary school.

DD was out about a month ago with a fever, I called her in sick and within a couple of hours the nurse was calling and asking what her symptoms were, etc. First time that has ever happened, but I am glad the school is trying to keep track of who has what.

From talking to other moms at the school, there has been confirmed cases of H1N1, but thankfully nothing that was worse than the normal flu.

I didn't vote, because there wasn't an option for friends/co-workers. No one in my family has had a confirmed case, although I'm pretty sure both my DDs have had it, and maybe all 4 of us have, who knows - lol, but DD11's best friend had a confirmed case back in August.

DH's friend's wife had it. So far, our family is good. I'm hoping it stays that way. With 5 kids, if one gets it, they all get it. I mainly worry about the baby because she is so small and has already had a rough time. The doc said she has a higher chance of getting pnuemonia. And DD10 has asthma.

My daughter's boyfriend has it. She got a call last night. He had a temp of 105. They were taking him to the hospital. I haven't heard from her yet this morning. Scary!

The current advice around here is to not go to the doctor for typical flu-like symptoms unless you have an underlying concern. They aren't testing for H1N1. So saying somebody has it would simply be a guess under these circumstances.

But no, I don't know anyone who has had it here.

I don't know anyone that has had it around here, but there was one reported death from it last week, so it's definatly in the area.

I am shocked at the results of the poll...

I have personally had it. Tested positive for Influenza A. But they are not testing anymore...so it is hard to know whether you have had it or not.

It is "widespread" in 41 states. How could this many people not know anyone with H1N1?

I am surprised at the poll results.

I am pretty sure DD and I had it - but mild cases. DD's best friend is out of school with it. My mom has it pretty bad.

Numerous schools around here are reporting higher than normal absentee rates.

A co-worker of my DH lost his 4 1/2 son yesterday.:sad1:

Pretty sure that my son had it, but it is so prevelent around here that his Dr. isn't even testing for it anymore if you are an otherwise healthy person. Confirmed cases of kids having it in each of my kids classrooms , husbands secretary had it - and I just drove my neighbors child home from school with a suspected case of it (her best friend has a confirmed case) (I'm their emergency contact.)

So yeah, in MD at least, there is alot of it.

A boy in my daughter's class was in the hosp. and tested pos. for it (this is according to the child's mother). Within a day almost half the class was out sick (we didn't know this boy was sick at the time) incl. my daughter. I called the Dr. and they didn't even want her to come into the office. She did have the symptoms. She was sick for about 4 days. Now my son has been sick since Sat. with alot of the symp. I brought him to get tested for strep yest. because his throat was so red and sore. Strep was neg. - they said it's prob. H1N1 but there was nothing really to do so they don't even test for it.
