Swine Flu: National Emergency.

I find it a bit ridiculous, but I'm not living in an area where it's growing at a fast rate.

i think the "national emergency" label was really just a technicality, from the article. it gave hospitals permission to do extra things to speed up treatment. so i'm not really worried. :confused3

I had to go to the doctor a few days ago, and there was half the waiting room set up just for flu patients. I would say there was 25-30 people in that section.

Not worried. I'm pretty sure half of our junior class had/does have it as of now. They were out for a week and then came back.

Deaths from it have reached 1000 so maybe you should be a little bit worried about it. Enough to be more of a clean freak than usual.

Being a clean freak wouldn't help you with the swine flu.

It's spreading around my campus like crazy. We can't even have a conversation anymore without someone mentioning it.

Well, not washing your hands and things like that will just make it more likely for you personally to get it.

I will always be concerned, but I don't worry. I still wash my hands like I usually do and use hand sanitizer after going to a store and I keep up my exercise and diet so that I stay as healthy as possible.

One of my friends is a crazy clean freak. He used hand sanitizer a hundred times a day and he still wound up getting it.

yeah nothing gives you a 100% chance of not getting it. that's why it is important to find a vaccine that we can get enough of and works well. At least most of the cases so far are just mild and don't effect much.

Hand sanitizer is useless unless it's used properly.
And most kids in school don't.

Also, I'm curious, if anybody knows how much it costs to get tested for swine flu?

We've only had one confirmed case at our school but my friends were telling me it's $400 or so just to get tested. Yikes. I thought that was interesting. I figured that's why nobody else was confirmed or if they were just assuming it was swine flu since that's what a lot of hospitals are doing.

Here they do not test you. They say it's pretty much likely you have it, but they can't guarantee it. If you feel sick, don't go anywhere.

I'm not worried about it. At the school I go to we have at least 3-5 cases of it, and the rest just have a different flu that isn't the Swine Flu. But there is a school near by where I live that got hit pretty bad with the Swine Flu. I'm just not really worried about it...don't understand why so many people are freaking out about it.

I may sound arrogant but I really am not in any panic about this 'swine flu'
it seems as though most people that die from it are sickly to being with, and a normal, healthy person should be able to get over it just like any other flu.

sure 1,000 deaths sounds like a lot, but in comparison to the regular flu it's nothing, roughly 60,000 people die per year form flu/influenza don't know how reliable this site is, but it's worth a look at the stats.

I think the media is doing what it always does and is fear mongering to make this flu seem to be some crazy epidemic, when really it's killed only a couple hundred people less than the average flu kills PER DAY!
