... here we go. :scared1:

DS is not showing any signs as of now. I started giving him Emergen-c packets everyday since school started. Hopefully, it will help boost his immune system a bit. We've been following all the precautions. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Funny, though, the school hasn't announced it.

I received a letter from a friend in Austin about 2 weeks ago and she had mentioned there being several confirmed cases of Swine flu in your area.. She's an older woman - no young children or grandchildren - who works for the post office, so I'm assuming she wasn't speaking of school-related cases..

Hope your little guy stays healthy.. We're all going to be facing these challenges in the weeks and months ahead..

Weird that the school hasn't announced it.

Some schools down here in Miami are now having the kids wear those medical masks and wash their hands when the enter the classrooms and when they leave, which is convenient when there is a sink in the room.
My brothers in High School, just make sure to wash their hands when they can and have those little bottles of Antibacterial.

Am seriously thinking of getting a mask thingy when I go to Food and Wine in October....or maybe just a gallon of antibacterial. :lmao:

It's true. Austin is already being hit hard. The doc in this case said 90% of all suspected cases are coming back from the lab positive. He also said they were going to stop sending in the swabs. They're overloaded.

Didn't Austin already have an outbreak of this last spring when it first became known? If so, it's too bad that didn't provide immunity for folks..

OT: My friend was very upset by her lawn dying from lack of rain this summer.. Now I saw on the news last night that there was flooding down there.. Was it bad? I'm worried about her and her home.. She's a widow and has to take care of everything herself..

over the summer my girls were at two different locations for school...the one loc had two cases and the other had one. Luckily no one else has gotten it. At the daycare all the children have their temp taken upon entering the school. If you haev a fever, you cannot stay.

The masks are meant to be worn by those who have swine flu to prevent from spreading it to others. It is not meant to protect a healthy wearer from getting the swine flu.

It's true, we did have it around last spring. It shut down a number of schools and canceled sporting activities, carnivals, etc.

The rain was truly a blessing. We were worried about having to re-sod our entire lawn. Now, we think it may come back. We got over six inches here. The flooding is mainly happening outside of austin. What part of town in she in?

DS19's roommate at college had it about 2 weeks ago. They had him stay in his room. I was just glad they have apartment-style dorms! It seems there are also many cases coming out around south GA lately too!

The N-95s are meant to protect you from getting it. A regular surgical mask probably wouldn't keep one from getting it though.

A couple weeks ago our school district made automated calls notifying the parents that 2 students at the high school and 2 students at the middle school (DD attends) had the flu. They said it wasn't confirmed that they had H1N1 but the district's policy is to treat all flu cases as H1N1.

At meet the teacher night last week one of DD's teachers was going over the missed work policy and made a comment that one of the girl's in the class was home sick with the swine flu. I don't know if she knew something we didn't or if she was just saying it because of the district's policy.

So far DD is symptom free.

I have a feeling it's going to be a looooong winter!

DD12 was sick three weeks ago. DH is an ER doc, but still had me take her in to the pediatrician. SHe said "well, her rapid strep test was negative, so it's probably flu, andif it's flu there's a 98% chance it's H1N1. The treatment was fever management. I spoke with the head of the health department the next morning and she echoed the exact same protocol, no Tamiflu unless she was in a high risk catagory. Trying to not abuse Tamiflu to try to keep the bug from developing an immunity to it. Testing is not truly necessary since the test can give a false negative. Last weekend older DD and I came down with the same symptoms, she stayed home last Tuesday. Truthfully, it wasn't that bad, the time I had regular flu it was worse than this. Just remember to wash hands and use sanitizer (this from DH the MD), use common sense.

A girl in my DD's 5th grade class had it. My DD did not get it.

From what we've seen so far, recommendations are going to "evolve" as time goes on - as they learn things about it and how to treat it, etc.

So stay tuned and informed. What the recommendations were two months ago may be different two months from now.

I'm glad my dd had this during the summer. Don't want to have to deal with this during the school year. I agree that the symptoms were pretty mild.

If we had started back to school after Labor Day instead of August 6 we would have been a lot better off.
