Swine Flu - General Discussion and how it affects Disney

Should we also close the borders to states that have confirmed cases?
:rotfl:

Well I guess if a particular state decided to shut down their entire state and have everyone stay in their house for 5 days then maybe we should. If it is deemed to risky for people from said state to be around EACH OTHER then what makes it safer for them to be around others that are not in their state?
:rolleyes1
Go ahead flame away. I already have my super soaker toy gun filled with purrell so I can put out your flames.:rotfl2:

Thanks everyone! I know this IS a serious subject, especially to those directly affected, but I have been so entertained today reading this thread. I keep waiting three-four minutes to refresh to see what the latest comments are! :rotfl: I hope we do not have a Big Brother program on our network; I may be out of a job come Monday!

And the email jokes start :rotfl2: I had to cross out a word that started with F as it was not the word fudge :rotfl2:

YEAH! You're back! That is just too funny!:lmao:

Why is it in today's society if you have a serious interest in something that others don't ~ your labeled OCD?!?!
SHEESH I have been told I am OCD about my Disney trips :rolleyes1

I have OCD and take medicine for it. My wife just wishes my OCD focused more on keeping the house clean. :lmao:

OHHH wonderful ~ knowing my luck I would be the one sitting right BEHIND him :rotfl2:
Remember what Binden said yesterday?!?!?!!?

United flight from Germany to Dulles airport in Virginia diverted to Boston due to passenger with flu-like symptoms.

Disney World is not closed. Being OCD, I even called them asked them the possibility of it closing. The response I received that there were no alarms and no plans of closing. They may have to close It's a Small World though since it's a pandemic. Just joking.

Serious question . . . how long after exposure to this virus will one know if he has caught it.

Situation: A student in DS's class is in Mexico now:scared1:, probably returning to school Monday. We are leaving for WDW on the Friday. How will we know she doesn't have the virus? How long after she returns can the school say she is for certain safe?

TIA:goodvibes

ITS A JOKE! Quit worrying about it, you can go to www.waltdisneyworld.com if the parks were closed it would be the first thing you would see on the webpage. That is not the case. Go, Enjoy, get piggy flu and have a good time! (Just kidding)

I've read about two to four days.

But the wiki document refers to global severity. The FL action plan, as is true for every state/county's action plan, refers to local severity. By the logic you're applying, schools should not be closing down in affected areas and sporting events and other public gatherings should not be affected. Yet we see that across the country and around the world, these things are happening on a limited, community by community basis. Therefore, I think that gives evidence that my interpretation is correct.

I don't think there's any prediciting how severe an outbreak would have to be to close the parks. I can't imagine the FL govt forcing park closures for a single confirmed case of a non-lethal, relatively mild flu. At this point, the swine flu in the US sounds a lot less severe than the stomach virus that was fodder for countless posts through this past winter.

I don't understand why people "don't understand" why peope are concerned about this. There's 90 something pages explaning why people are concerned! I do believe it's a milder flu in the U.S. - right now. But as someone who catches every single bug that come along since I had chemo 5 years ago - I don't want to get a flu that even though it's "mild" is still making people sick for 7 days. I don't want to get ANY flu. And I get a flu shot every year for the "normal" flu - that kills so many people a year - but the ones it usually gets are the very young, the very old and the immuno compromised. That's not the case with this.

But here's my prediction - this will end up being a pandemic but I think it will be very mild at this time because it's the end of flu season for the majority of the world's population. HOWEVER - it will have plenty of time to mutate and grow into a different strain by NEXT flu season. Hopefully they'll have a vaccine by then - but it will still be a flu in addition to the "normal" flu. As someone in the nursing home industry - we are taking it very seriously and stocking up on infection control supplies for our customers.

I don't advocate panic - but I'm really tired of the "you're a fear-mongering, OCD, sissy" if you are concerned about this flu!
I agree, it looks like we are going to have mostly mild cases here in the US..One of the CDC people said he thought this thing could pan out in several ways..1)the virus could just putter out 2) full scale pandemic or 3) could fizzle out in spring/summer and then come back in the fall.

This is common behavior for influenza..it'll decrease dramatically in the summer and come back in autumn because the environmental conditions are more conducive.

But, there are always people who like to be prepared and those who don't want to worry about anything..I wouldn't let it bother you..you know that you're doing the best for your family and patients.

This sounds way harsh, but there are these things called the Darwin Awards..usually they're given to those who get themselves killed doing something really stupid..who knows, maybe it's built into human nature that there are those people who don't have the common sense to take precautions, so they die out.

Just look at these boards, so many people who would rather attack other posters, make fun of people who need reassurance, and fill their posts with more smilies than anything useful..

I love the pooh thing and the meat helmet, not talking about that..just talking about the snarky behavior from people who will be first ones whimpering should they be caught unprepared..

I am watching the live feed :lmao:

about 30 medics to take this one guy with the flu off the plane :lmao:
