Swine Flu - General Discussion and how it affects Disney

There's no way I have time to read this entire post and maybe this has already been said, but...

I keep getting this mental image of some pratical joker sneaking in and putting little masks on all the characters in "It's A Small World"!!!

:rotfl:

Is it safe to come out yet???

On a not-so-funny note.....There will be a press release within the hour here in Canada concerning the new swine farm infected in Alberta, Canada. A man came back from Mexico and carried the virus back with him. He became ill with the virus. He also passed the H1N1 flu to all of his pigs.

On another note, this thread is quite funny :P:thumbsup2:rotfl2::lmao:

Hmmmmmmm...........

I wonder what THIS button does (presses it)

I think I've found the cause of all this swine flu...

It's either this swine, which clearly flew.....

Thanks to all you posters who have made me laugh today....after watching too much CNN, etc.....and listening to my husband telling me we should cancel our trip for week after next - this is just what I needed! :rotfl:

What happens to all those pigs? They are infected and can infect more people.

OT alert(kind of):I do have to make an observation here...I know I'll get flamed but hey, I've ticked off quite a few people here on the boards long before swine flu came.:)

Seems like there's a good percentage of people on the DIS who are very paranoid just in general..The government is out to get them, the media is out to get them, the medical establishment is out to poison their kids with vaccinations. The drug companies and the drugstores only want to sell more supplies and drugs...so they're in cahoots with the government and the medical establishment..

Before swine flu, we had the people that were afraid to use the fingerprint scanners...and people that flipped out if other people were taking pictures, and their kid might have just happened to be in the shot..

Where do such types get their info/news or do they completely disregard what they hear? I'm honestly curious about this..:confused3
I don't think I can answer your curiosity, but I do share it because I'm married to one of the super-suspicious sort. I am pretty much the opposite. It has made for some pretty loud debates, but also allows us to come a little closer to middle ground. I'm maybe not quite so trusting and more likely to do a little research into something before blindly following and he will back down on strongly held positions / opinions when I can show him how they perform in the real world. He is aware that his nature is more paranoid than the norm and I'm aware that I trust too easily.

I do have to say that, unfortunately, at least in social situations his paranoid radar seems to have been more accurate than my "everyone is really without agendas" mind set.

Of the two of us, he'd be more inclined to cancel our June trip and I'd be more likely to go ahead. We've found middle ground in that we're waiting to see what happens over the next week or two and then deciding if action needs to be taken.

So....we leave in 12 days....

Should I start packing?

I am thinking though, sooner or later this is going to have to hit WDW then what happens? This is my fear, would they close down park? WOuld people be getting flu like all at once?

After 117 pages you would think I would have a clear decision on this...

I promised I would update. I just got to our hotel where we are staying in Georgia for the night. We should arrive at AKV by 1:00pm tomorrow.
We are so excited. There is no signs of any panic that I saw on the roads. We drove all the way from Chicago. All I noticed was that people were absolutely washing there hands extra long and extra carefully. No one we ran into even mentioned flue. Good spirits all around.
Can't wait to get to WDW. I will try to update the situation from there when I get my internet access.

Love to all!

PS. My mother is currently in the air as I speak :S lol I almost (jokingly of course) put on an N95 mask, gloves and sparyed her down with Bio-Green :P

(I did however secretly spray her luggage and purse as I carried her things to her room, I have a DS 13 months you see...lol):rolleyes1

I just finished watching the press release.. They said the pigs were quarrentined. However, they also claim that it is `a remote chance' that people could get sick from these newly infected pigs. Yet, this flu came from pigs in the first place, passed it to humans, then humans to pigs... of *course* there is a highly likely chance that these pigs may have already infected people before they knew they had it.

Its kind of a cycle that I am trying to describe, it sounds confusing but I hope what I wrote makes any sense :dance3:

Unfortunately...or maybe fortunately, it isn't up to us to decide, but if I were you I'd start packing!

There are no confirmed cases in Orlando, of course that could change, but I don't see them closing the theme parks unless there are alot of cases and if that were the case you probably wouldn't want to go anyway.

Somebody some pages back posted that we used to be afraid of the finger scanner. Well, actually I still am - and not because I'm afraid that Disney will have my fingerprints. I can't imagine the amount of viruses and germs that must be on those things. I have always gone straight to a restroom to wash my hands after being scanned in. I wonder if the flu could be easily spread on one of those machines.
