yes i am with you - enough is enough...DH has me on a media blackout. as you can see i am leaving tomorrow.

can't speak to the dole whip - i've actually never tried one :scared1: but i know they are at adventureland and the polynesian.

I would say that if the medical community is keeping anything a secret then that is being highly irresponsible. If they are really that concerned then why let the government "lie" to everyone? If you really want people to be safe and listen to the "stay indoors" mentality then by all means release that information.

Exactly. :thumbsup2 This notion that there is some secret knowledge tha is more than the rest of us can bear wins no converts and saves no lives.

What most do not understand is that the CDC and WHO do NOT know EXACTLY what they are dealing with at this point. In Disney terms, think of Chicken Little. He saw the sky fall, but no one believed him, when it did it again, he was too scared to say because at this point he didnt know what was going to happen and not panic everyone.

At this point, they know they have a new bug, it is highly contagious and they know that if treated within the first 48 hours Tamiflu is effective for treating the symptoms. Outside of that, they just don't know. The Gov't wont panic the people until it is so far gone that just isolation will not help....

On a side note I totally agree with this person..Thats all the info u need right there.now can you answer me about dole whip ,Thank you

I didn't read through to see if this had been answered yet. However, they were NOT at all the same group. They confirmed cases were out of Newberry, SC. The Disney related cases are out of Greenville, SC.

Thank you for answering that! :) That makes me feel much better. Maybe those others have something unrelated! :goodvibes

There are about 10,000 other threads (or you can start your own) to talk about Dole Whip. Please allow those of us that are interested in the developments here, including how it affects our Disney vacations, to discuss it without being flamed for discussing it, if you don't mind. ;)

But as for your Dole Whip question - I hear they are AWESOME. Never had one, though, because I really don't like pineapple. :) :goodvibes

I don't post, I'm a reader. But, I have to wonder....if the swine flu was soooo contagious why are cast members not getting sick? The cast members see international travelers for up to 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. (from Mexico too) there have been no cases in the state of Florida. i'm not saying it is "mild", but at this point I am more likly to be killed in a car accident. By the way, I will be at Epcot Saturday. I will take my normal percautions. (I wipe tables down before I eat, and I use hand sanitizer) I will fight this illness like any other, I and my family are healty and our doctor sees no reason not to go.

CNN.com Live has a link for a Texas update, but there are people just milling around. Are they waiting to start or did I already miss the presser?

Well, it's been a fun way to assuage my mild ADHD ways (DISing while working always makes the time fly)... but I'm off to supper and a soccer game and volleyball practice. Anyone think these events will be cancelled by week's end? ;)

A happy evening to all, and safe travels to those who are leaving on trips soon. :grouphug:

Agreed. Since it is a new bug, none of us are resistant to it yet. Also, since it is new, no vacine has been developed for it, and that could be 6 months away. WHO realizes what a unique opportunity this is, because they have never been able to observe a pandemic in real time until now. I think we should all be seerious about this for a minute. Most of us live good lives . We travel, have computers , are aware of what is going on in other parts of the world, have good diets, great health care, and so on. But so many others don't and that is where the problem lies. Some are saying this is a mild strain, and to us, that would seem true. However, the same virus will soon be affecting all parts of the world, where sanitation is poor, water is dirty, diets are lacking, and medical care is non existant. Millions could die. Perhaps not in North America, but this could become a very serious thing. Yes, I worry for my family, my community and the CM's in WDW, but if this thing blows up the way they are expecting, my heart breaks for the people I will never know and their loss.:sad1:

Welcome to the DIS! Speak up more often.:cool1:

I dont wan't to get involved in the flaming so please chill out a little, but I do want to respectfully throw my 2 cents into the discussion.

Today I went out and bought 80 face masks 4 boxes of latex gloves a case of hand sanitizer and a case of clorox dissinfectant wipes. I purchased all of this for my 25 employees (just in case). That being said I highly doubt that any of the stuff I purchased will be needed. Right now I'm taking a wait and see BUT be prepared approach. I'm not changing my everyday life but I'm ready too if need be.

We have no cases of Swine flu reported in my town (and none according to the only pharmacist in town). I'm only 28 but I remember a lot of things in my life that this is very very reminiscent of, namely:
West Nile, SARS, AIDS (when expected to wipe out the human race in the 80s), Anthrax, Smallpox, and the mellinium computer bug. So lets give it time before we start running around like chicken little with her head cut off.

In the midst of the hysteria currently afoot you probably missed upthread where I said I'd change plans/actions accordingly as needed. ;) Don't worry, I don't take offense at your personal attack on me. This wouldn't be the first time I've unknowingly become a straw man. I know this is a scary time for lots of people, and it's hard for some to maintain perspective.

Have a Disney day. :)

It's not a personal attack on you at all. It's following the premise that YOU presented out to its logical extreme. I'm tired of the "more people die from drunk drivers" argument. I would hope that everyone on these boards uses the good sense not to BE the drunk driver. Yet very few seem to realize that they could, potentially, be the infection carrier that causes someone immunocompromised to ultimately lose their life. It's the socially responsible thing to do, to try to minimize risk to not only yourself, but the greater community. Or maybe that's too hippie an ideal for modern society.

At any rate, I know that you and everyone else are trying to do the best you can as you see fit. And that's all anyone can do. You have a Disney Day as well.
