Swimming in 70 degree weather?

You people are crazy. I live in Florida and we have a word for 70-degree weather: "winter." ;)

Trying hard not to say I hate you ;).

As for the issue at hand, I am convinced that 70 degrees in Florida is warmer than i70 degrees is here. The sun is stronger and truly feels warm in the middle of the day. As long as the sun's out, I will be getting in the pool on our Feb. trip! Night time is a different story - I will usually get in the hot tub, but use lots of towels (sorry to the cm's who have to wash them) and have some kind of cover up as well. That wet walk back to the room can be rough :rotfl:.

One more though about the pool area in winter. Last Feb. at AKL it was a little challenging to find pool chairs that were in the sun for the entire day! The best ones got snagged early, and the chairs that were left were only in the sun for a couple hours since the sun's not as high in the winter. I must have been in the sun long enough because I got some color, but it was a challenge!

Very funny :rotfl2:

It's 32 right now in Stillwater Minnesota and that is actually a heat wave. Normally our average high for this time of year is low to mid 20s.

I think it also depends on the time of day and if the pool is in the sun or shade. We had some days in the high 70s, low 80s and we swam twice. The pool was nowhere close to 84 on one of those days and was already in the shade. So it was colder than we expected but still doable.

Other than a chilly dash from the pool to your resort room, you should be able to get some swimming in.

A few years ago the kids and I swam while DH did Richard Petty driving experience. I think it was about 65 degrees out. People were sitting around the pool wearing winter coats. When you come from Wisconsin, 65 degrees in the middle of winter is very warm. We had great time!!

In Ohio we have a word for 70 degree weather: "Summer." :lmao:

I believe you when you say this about it being winter. When we were swimming in the low 70's the lifeguards were wearing jackets and some were even wearing hats and gloves. :confused3

We always go in January and we swim almost everyday regardless of the weather. A couple of years ago we when we were checking in our room wasn't ready yet so I asked if it was ok if we went for a swim while we waited. The CM looked SHOCKED and said, "It's 58 degrees today". I responded, "That's ok we live in the arctic". Actually both of our last January trips the lifeguards had parkas on and we were the only ones in the pool in the evening. During the day there were only a handful of people around the pool. Last year one evening it was in the 50's and a CM in a parka brought over treats for my daughter (apparently they were the prizes for the pool games but we were the only ones there). We were sitting in the hot tub and had a good chat with her about "crazy Canadians" she they were no longer shocked by the people willing to swim in the cold weather :cool1:

Yeah, we're the nuts you see swimming with the steam coming up off the pool. It's the coming out that is tough. A tourist(well intended, I'm sure) asked to photograph my son and I in the pool with the life guards in the background wearing hats, mittens, and scarves, lol. I guess it's in the union contract if the temp drops below 50 degrees they can leave duty. It was hovering right around 50 that day, and they were waiting and watching! :cool1:

I forgot, that's right a couple of nights there were no lifeguards and someone said it was too cold:lmao: We laughed and jumped in the hot tub  DD was upset because there were no other kids to play with most of the time. We did some pictures of DD at the pool with the lifeguards bundled up in the background.

When our youngest son went with us to OKW after his military tour, he was delighted to swim and hottub. Maybe we are all a little soft compared with our military

It has to be in the 80s for me to swim, but many others enjoy in the colder temps.

We swam in Texas last year and it was around the same temperature, but then again we do polar dips up here! :rotfl:

Many upscale ski resorts have heated outdoor pools that people go in the winter. We've gone into a heated pool in 55 degree weather in San Francisco. As long as the pool is warm, I don't see why not?

Ok I am bringing their swimsuits! Now my question is... if we had to pick one pool(we are doing a split stay at AKL and BWV), which pool would the kids like better??? The one at AKL or the one at BWV??
