Swimming during New Years week?

I know the weather can be so up and down that time of year and I know the pools are heated.

We never do parks every single day and being a single mom I get nervous if they can't swim then what else will I do with them!!!!!

Have you found that it's generally swimmable weather?!

Depends.

Last Christmas week, my kids did a couple of afternoons at the pools when we stayed at the Swan. Sunny, low 80s, etc.

About a billion years ago, when my oldest was an infant, I think we had much cooler weather. Low 70s, rain. So pool at Fort Wilderness didn't happen.

It honestly depends. I usually go over thanksgiving or Christmas close to every year since 2000. Before 2010, there many more days where it was really cold, but since 2010, most of the times we have gone have been warmer than average. A couple of years ago for Christmas, I remember it getting up to almost 90 during the day.

If you can’t swim there are some other options depending where you are staying. You could do mini golf or walk around the boardwalk.

We were at WDW 12/27/19 to 1/3/20. Had a little rain almost everyday. A little too cool to go swimming, for us. Stayed at Wilderness, I think I only saw 2-4 people in the pool one evening after getting back from the park. The one thing about Florida weather...you just never know...it's unpredictable.

On one of those trips we had days where the high was in the 50s (it was in the 40s in the morning/evening!) and days where the highs were in the 80s. On the same weeklong trip. Bottom line - you can’t really rely on pool time, but it might work out.

The cooler winter weather makes the parks very comfortable. You may be able to spend more time at the parks than you think on those days!

I've been there in winter when it's 70 degrees, and when it's in the low 40's and also windy. Luck of the draw.

It depends where you come from. We saw people in the pool in mid December 2017. It was pretty cool out. Way too cold for me and my south Louisiana family but this family was from Michigan and they thought the water was fine. Cheers!!!!!!!!!!

5 out of 6 of our trips have been in January. The kids have been in the pool every time. But then again we are Canadian...

Depending on where you stay you may enjoy yard games, movies, making smores, scavenger hunts etc. if the weather is too chilly. I have been to WDW three times at Christmas/New Years. None of the three times was it warm enough to swim. One time it was so cold we were glad we had our Ohio winter coats! They actually covered ALL the flowers with white like fabric. It was cold. However, I have been to WDW several times in January and it was warm enough to enjoy the pool. And once in November I went to the first Christmas party and it was 88.

We’ve gone Christmas week twice. The first time, a few years ago (I think 2015?), it was upper 80’s and like summer (here at home, not as humid as a Florida summer lol) the entire trip. We swam on Christmas Eve and Day, and will always have such fond memories of that. 2 Christmasses ago it was warm during the day and cooler at night, but we still swam a few times because mid-day it was in the 80’s. So we’re 2 for 2 On good swimming weather that week. We’ve had a trip in early December and a couple in early February where it didn’t get warm enough for me to swim, or barely got warm enough at some point during the week, though. So it is hit or miss. Last February we have photos at night in winter hats, coats, and gloves- not Christmas week, I know, but still the cooler Fla months.

I have been in December and January. The early December trip was highs around 68. It was too cold for us to swim. When I went the first week of January, it was even colder with highs in the upper 50s. I tried the pool once at CBR but getting out was awful lol. The pools will be open regardless even if it isn't warm but it's really just a matter of how much you can tolerate. You may get lucky, you just never know.

Native Floridian here. The answer is: It's anyone's guess. I have found memories of swimming at my aunts pool in Leesburg(40 mins north of Disney) on Christmas day a a child. Sometimes you have to wear a heavy jacket at Christmas and sometimes its warm enough to swim! And it can change every few days. On average through December/January are around low 50s low and low 70s high. So maybe on a sunny day in a heated Disney pool during the warmest part of the day a dip in the pool would feel nice.

The one time we went over new years week the pools were only open one day as it was soooo cold.

The pools are heated, but the air around the pools isn't--so be warned. Getting in and being in are fine. Getting out? That's another story. There's a reason I know about this! Although if you get warm temperatures, you'll be fine.
