I am well fat. Yet I need a new swimsuit for my size. I can't seem to find anything that looks good other than a mumu.

Do you have some stylish suggestions?

I personally love the two piece suits. I have the tank-type tops and the swim shorts. I don't feel so exposed. I hate one piece suits with a passion, they show every lump, bump and really highlight my worst areas, like the thighs. There are some really cute shorts and skirt options to wear with the tank that offer more coverage. I usually buy them from LL Bean or Lands End.

Wow, those Robyn Lawley suits are amazing! Thanks for sharing.

I've heard Lands' End suits are functional and flattering. But I'd go for the RL suits if I weren't old and special needs.

I can't speak to style, but my wife will never own a one-piece again. Too much of a pain when you need to "go".

Thanks for the links. I never would consider a two piece, there is some things that should never be seen.

I always thought you move the suit to the side for the go? Or drop it all the way down and that is so problematic when it is wet.

Maybe a tanki? I need a company with a good return policy in case it doesn't fit well.

I got a cute suit last week at Lane Bryant, only problem is it must have sold out because its not listed anymore. Even my 17 year old DD commented that it was really cute. I had no idea they sold out that quickly! I like more of a track short kind of bottoms with my suits because I do water exercises and its easier to move in them.

I think tankinis are great for all body types. You don't have to have skin showing between the top and bottom. It gives you flexibility. Sometimes you need on size on top and a different size on the bottom. It kind of like create your own bathing suit too. You can mix and match tops and bottoms to draw attention to what you want and hide things you want to hide.

I have the bathing suit linked below from WomanWithin.com and I love it. The skirt comes to the top of my thighs so it's not too long but I don't have that "walking around in my underwear" feeling I get with more traditional suits.

Lands End also makes great suits that last forever.

We don't mean a two piece like a string bikini :rotfl:

We mean a tank top made of bathing suit material, and they have built in support. Then you match it with either shorts made of swim suit material, or a skirt made of swim suit material. They offer much more coverage than a traditional one piece, and as others have said, much easier when you have to go to the bathroom. There is no skin showing in the middle, your tummy is totally covered.

Check Lands End, they have some cute ones and if it does not fit, I believe you can return it at Sears since they own LE.

I love Land's End suits also. I love the fact that you can buy the Tankini pieces separately and mix and match. Plus, if you have a different size top and bottom, you get a perfect fit! The only downside I've found is that the little skirts attached to the bottoms float up sometimes, and if i'm sitting in the hot tub, air bubbles catch underneath and you end up looking like you have a gigantic ball on front.

I don't get to swim all that often these days, but when I get the chance I'm swimming, not sitting at the side of the pool,

I've got a couple of tankinis, but honestly, I don't much like them. I find them a bit problematic to swim in, because air gets trapped under the top, and in open water the wave motion often makes them float up. I prefer a good supportive one-piece, and for my money, the best value in those is Land's End.

The best LE tankini I've got is one that has adjustable drawstrings down the sides. Left fully open, they turn the top into something very close to a swimdress, but cinched up, they keep the top tight against your hips and help to keep the top from floating up. I've added a couple of rubber o-rings just under the outside leg of my suit bottom, and when I'm in open water I tie the drawstrings through those to completely prevent any float-up.

I do have one pair of swim-shorts that goes with my tankini, but I only use them for water parks; I prefer traditional briefs when I'm actually swimming.

RE: Land's End, note that very often if the suit has a halter top or straight shoulder straps, the plus-sized version will have cross-straps instead for better support.

PS: Remember that swimming is exercise, and it's good for you. Buy a suit that you are comfortable moving around in, because if it is only good as a "sit by the pool" suit you won't want to get into the water and play.
Looks are not really as important as comfort in this respect. Just buy something that covers enough to keep you decent, and don't worry about the prospect of a few bumps here and there.

Yes, two piece tankini. And if you still feel like you need more coverage, you can wear swim shorts with them. I don't think one piece suits flatter anyone but the very fit.

I agree, I have a tankini with a skirt bottom. A bottom that hits the top of my thighs doesn't look good.

Tankinis are great. I actually got fantastic tops from Target that have underwire in them and no padding. I then team them with bottoms that are a higher rise than normal as it makes me feel more comfortable. Most of the ones I have have a top bit that was meant to be folded over (but I just don't fold it) but I also have some super-duper suck in ones that go up really high (they are a tad uncomfortable though).

For fit, I wear a one piece. I am built like Pooh, huge belly :( I need full tummy coverage. I have swim skirts and swim shirts that I wear over them for sun protection and an looking into a swim burka for further skin protection. When I go to water play parks with my kids, its a swim shirt and skirt (right above my knee) over a full tank suit. I am modest by choice (not religious, or by social pressure) because I don't want to feel like I am hanging all out and I have 4 male sons that seem to appreciate that Mom isn't trying to look like a teenager, lol!
