Swim diapers

Does Disney have a "rule" about swim diapers. We were staying at a hotel a few years ago and were told that our ds who was 4 at the time HAD to have a swim diaper type suit on to use the pool. He was really upset b/c he had been potty trainded for over a year. We will be at Disney for the first time in Sept. and will have a dd 4 and ds 7. So can anyone help? And do the resorts follow the same rules as the waterparks where this is concerned? TIA

Just back from WDW. I did see signs requiring swim diapers at the two pools we visited -- at Blizzard Beach and at All Star Sports.

I believe the swim diapers are for children of ages that they would not be potty trained.

Went in May of this year w/4 y/o, and no one said a word about a diaper for her - she would have freaked if they did!!

I can't believe anyone would tell you that you had to put a diaper on a 4yo. I would've thought an explanation that the kid is potty trained would be enough. Just the age alone should've been good. Some places make silly rules and the next place you go you wish they had rules!

I think, if I can remember correctly, that the signs there say something to the effect of those not potty trained (not sure if they used those exact words though LOL) must be in swim diapers. That's ridiculous of them to require it for a child who's potty trained!!! I doubt Disney would expect that. That makes about as much sense as requiring swim diapers on everyone- including adults. LOL

I can understand not putting a swmi diaper on a potty trained 4 year old, but I know at Disneyland, the Neverland pool seems to shut down just about every day in the summer months, because a child has pooped in the pool.

What I think happend is a 2 or 3 year old, who is potty trained at home, is enjoying the pool too much and doesn't ask to go fast enough. The next thing you know, everyone has to clear the pool and is closes for an hour or two.

I know this is a thread that can get people pretty angry, and I'm not trying to get anything started. However, with a child 3 and under, even if they are potty trained, I wish people would use swim diapers. They give them away free at the Neverland pool!

Our trip to DL last year, we only did the park one day....the rest of the time we enjoyed the resort, especially the pool. And each time we were there, the pool closed down due to a potty accident.

Well, I'm sure more people would use the swim diapers..... "just in case"- if they were given free at the resorts! LOL I don't think they are though.

I also think they should sell them at the resort stores.... I noticed they didn't on my last trip (wasn't needed though- was just checking out the store) and although our daughter is now potty trained so she'll be potty trained for quite some months before our trip, I'd probably rather not have to ask her a billion times if she needs to go potty (so she doesn't have an accident like you said- kids tend to do that even after being potty trained... if they get too caught up in what they are doing and just don't want to stop OR just wait until it's too late and they can't hold it any longer to go to the bathroom)- so I plan on bringing some. But that's a lot of added bulk (plus pullups at night- she hasn't been having accidents at night but I don't trust the nighttime thing for a long time. LOL All my kids stayed in pullups at night for awhile. I guess I really don't like washing sheets constantly and I'm afraid it might happen when I least expect it) to pack on the airplane. I wish they sold them there so we wouldn't have to bring them.
(unless ofcourse we decide to rent a van- then we can go buy them while there anyway- but a lot of people don't and rely on WDW transportation the entire time)

Hey BibbidyBobbidyBo,

Try asking the CM behind the counter if the keep swim diapers. This is one of those things that they sometimes have but don't keep them out on display. Kind of like the dramamine that I though I had forgetten and they did have behhind the counter but it was 10.00 for 6. We were doing off site to get some and found it in DH's carry on! I think that I have read that they do have them at resort gift shops but you have to ask.

My daughter is potty trained day and night...but I still do put swimmies on her in the pool. She's not quite 3 yet, but it seems something about the water makes her have to pee right away, and she doesn't want to stop playing to come tell me.
But...I would think each parent SHOULD know whether or not their child has accidents.. At 2 and 3...I would think a swimmie wouldn't be objectionable as long as your child isn't gonna freak by wearing it.. If they've been trained for over a year at 4 with NO accidents...I wouldnt' put it on my child...

And I totally agree with ya, cali2gagirl.

Except do the swim diapers REALLY help with urination? I bet the pee is still going everywhere- and older children pee in the pool too. Heck I bet some uncouth adults pee in there too! The poopsies is what I'd be worried about "accidentally" happening. LOL

The resorts do all sell swim diapers....but you may have to ask for them.

My dd is 3...one of her swimsuits is one she's had for about 2 years...and its a swim diaper type. The other isn't. No one said a word to us at WDW when she was wearing her non diaper suit. Up until now we've just put the diaper suit on her to keep the lifeguards happy.

They *will* make sure a baby is wearing a swim diaper. When dd was 6mo and we were practicing diaperless baby care we were told to put one on her. It was unnecessary for us (she was very predictable elimination wise and didn't wear diapers at all...if she had to go I would have known in plenty of time to get her out of the pool) but still not a big deal to put on her "diaper" sort of suit. It was easier than trying to explain that our 6mo was "potty trained" anyway! With my next baby I'll just be sure to only get diaper suits.

Poop in the pool is gross....and it is a better idea to err on the side of caution. I realize that our situation was something seen very, very rarely in this country, so we just played along.
