Anyone out there familiar with swim diapers? I guess we'll need to get some. Are they hot for little ones to wear? Do you put them on at the start of the day or just slip them on later when you get to a fountain play area? I got some swim trunks for ds to wear and I was going to get swim diapers to wear underneath.

Tonight thought I found swim trunks at Target that have a waterproof liner sewn in (sort of like plastic training pants sewn in). The package says no swim diaper needed underneath.

Now I'm rethinking this. I may leave the ordinary trunks that require a swim diaper at home and take just these trunks with the liner sewn in.

Just wondering how other parents plan for water play for their toddlers.

I much preferred swim diapers to a suit iwth a liner built in. both will contain the stool, but a disposible swim diaper is much easier to get off and clean up.

swim diapers are like pullups, you just rip the sides apart, clean up like a diaper, and put a fresh swim diaper on. the built in liner trunks - just exactly how do you get them off without smearing or losing the contents all over? I never figured that one out. and then do you wash it in the restroom sink and put it back on the kid?

I just used swim diapers all the time. heck, if you are doing a fountain area, just put on the swim diaper and skip the suit. when done, dry off, throw the swim diaper away and no wet suit to carry around.

DO NOT WEAR SWIM DIAPERS ALL DAY!! they are only meant to contain poo, not urine, so you will have a mess very quickly as the liquid just goes right through it.

That being said, we always had one or two in our diaper bag. When we got back to pop at night it was nice to just throw one on ds and let him play in the goofy water jets for a few minutes before returning to the room to sleep.

I would bring both. DS5 always had a hard time not swallowing the water and that always gave him an upset tummy. Bring the plastic pants and then the swim diapers as backup for while you're at the pools. (A lot of public pools require that diaper age children wear the plastic pants as any poopy release is supposed to require draining and cleaning the pool - at least that's the rules at the YMCA.)

Good to know this. I'll try to return the trunks from Target and just take the swim diapers. We are learning as we go. Thanks for the input.
