So my 2 & 1/2 year old is potty trained for a few months now ---

Does Disney have any specific rules on swim diapers for little ones - IMHO she does not need one but I wouldn't want to get in trouble for not sticking one on her under her suit either??

Would you put the swim diaper on to make Disney & other guests happy or just leave it off until someone says something??

I believe the written rules are that children who are not potty-trained must wear a swim diaper. I can't remember seeing an age guideline. If she's potty-trained and you aren't worried about accidents, I wouldn't bother with it. But if there's a remote chance she'll have an accident, please use one.

I kept using a swim diaper on DD for probably 6 months after she was completely potty trained, just because I felt more comfortable with that. Besides I had a pack that was already opened so it wasn't like I had to go buy more.

If you're confident your child is potty trained, then certainly skip the swim diaper - those little buggers are pricey, and I can't see using them if it's not necessary.

Congrats on your early trainer, too! My older boy trained right around age 2. My younger....sigh....I'll be happy if he goes of to college in briefs....

I was shocked that she PTd so early but am definitely relieved - although not really looking forward to when she decides she really ahs to go & we are in a line for a ride or something - we have been working on "holding it" for a little longer lately.
I bought a pack before she was PTd in the spring - they are unopened - almost returned them to Target but was holding them just in case we had a setback or something - I really don't want to use them if I don't need them.
I don't have any fear of her pooping in the pool - I just didn't want anyone to say anything since she is still young.

You know your child best but I must say that last year we were at the GF kiddie pool and my son had a swimmie on and I was watching and playing with him. This older kid approx 5 or 6 came into the pool and was being kinda weird. Next thing I know there is POOP in the pool. I went and told a CM and the kiddie pool had to be shut down, I know they thought it was my son but it wasn't. That older kid moved her swim suit so she wouldn't have to go to the bathroom and stop having fun. this is just my WDW poop story- I DO NOt think your child would do that!

We use cloth swim diapers. Target had them on clearance awhile back. There were really cute girly ones. Swim diapers are mainly to hold in any poo accidents because even the disposable ones don't actually absorb urine like a regular diaper does. If you aren't worried about a poo accident i'd skip the swim diaper.

That's great that she PT so early! Wonderful! :cool1:

I'm with the OP, if there is a remote chance that a child (any child) will have an accident then please have them wear a diaper. A young child won't even know the difference so they're not likely to be embarrassed. It may be a few extra moments prep time but that's how really bad germs and disease spread. We've gotten the ROTA virus before and it was just terrible (uggggh). Those things spread easily and even the cleanest people can spread germs through their waste. :sad2:

If a child can't speak up 100% of the time about needing to go or if the bathroom may be too far to help them make it then better safe than sorry (IMHO).

Plus, once that warm or cold water hits them they usually have to go! :)

If you aren't worried about a poo accident skip it. Swim diapers do NOT hold in pee.

I wouldn't bother with swim diapers, she has been out of diapers for a while now. My DD is 2 1/2 (b-day in November) and she has been out of diapers since the end of Jan, beginning of Feb and i wouldn't even think about putting a diaper on her.

when we went to great wolf lodge, i remember there was a rule that children 4 & under had to wear a swim diaper. i specifically looked around the disney website and could not find any requirement like that. if your child is potty trained, you don't have to worry about swim diapers.

I think you pretty much have your answer! I tend to agree with what was alredy said. You know your child best, and if you are confident that they will not have an accident in the pool, then you can skip the swim diaper. Disney doesn't require children up to a certain age wear one (OT, but I've heard the Nickelodeon hotel has an age requirement, irregardless) provided they are potty trained.

I kept a swim diaper on my former stepson for quite awhile after he was potty trained, but that's because he was a very "accident prone" child and would often get so caught up in what he was doing he wouldn't remember to go potty before it happened! And while we never had any incidences in the pool, I wanted to ensure that nothing did ever happen to spoil the enjoyment of other guests.

Well I guess I won't be going there. There is no way I would be putting my 4 year old in a swim diaper when she has been trained for over 2 years. Heck I wouldn't put my 2 year old in a swim diaper since he has been trained for quite some time now. :surfweb:

:headache: You guys are lucky! In Utah we have to have all children under 3 in disposable swim diapers AND a cloth swim diaper over it! Last year there were tons of cases of crytpo from public pools, so they have gotten quite strict about diapers this year. My 2 y/o is potty trained but still has to wear diapers in the pool because of this, not a big deal though wouldn't stop me from taking her swimming!

Unfortunately, the outbreaks of sickness from E-Coli and other bacteria getting into the water by children having accidents in the pool (whether they are potty trained or not) has led to some places being more strict about their guidelines. I know my friend worked at a pool years ago in Naples, FL where the rules was 5 and under must be in a swim diaper. The same rule applied to the YMCA pool where my cousin had her swimming lessons. Actually, with the number of times Disney pools have had to close down for a day due to "floaters in the water" I'm sort of surprised they haven't taken a hard/fast line with this.

I think how the parents handle that sort of situation will dictate how the child handles it. If the parent acts like it's just another part of putting on the swim suit, then the child is less likely to resist wearing it.

But, that's not the issue here, Disney has no problems with your child not wearing the swim diaper if they are potty trained, so if you've got a potty trained child, you're good.

I'd definately skip the swim diaper. My dd was trained at 2.5 also. I would be concerned that the swim diaper would confuse her and set her back. I don't think you will have a problem. There are quite a few kids that train by 2.5, so I doubt they would say anything to you. Now, if you bring in an infant 1 or under, then they might say something.
