HAPPY SWEETEST DAY!
Is it Sweetest Day in your state or is Michigan the only state that recognizes Sweetest Day as a holiday? People around here call it the Hallmark holiday. DH & I exchange cards. I even got flowers this morning  . I'm sure the restaurants will be crowded tonight.

Lil Lil, Youngest DS and I took the dogs for a Fall hike this morning. We had barely gotten in the dor when I heard a knock on my door. DBF was there with a dozen red roses and a helium balloon! I love to get flowers!
Later we are going to dinner.
Sometimes, it's nice to have a day to mandate romance!!! ;)

TC :cool1:

We're from PA. I'm not sure I've ever heard of Sweetest Day. If dh should be getting me a gift I want to get him on the phone immediately! Seriously, is it different than Valentine's day?

It's like a Valentine's Day here. A lot of people don't celebrate it like Valentine's Day. I don't think it's a "national" holiday like Valentine's Day. I think it's nice. Keeps the men on there toes :rotfl: .

:rose: Happy Sweetest Day... for those who celebrate this "sweet" holiday!! :flower3: I don't know if Michigan is the only one that celebrate this holiday. They sell "Sweetest Day" cards at the card shops... and also at the flower shops they have Sweetest Day flowers..

What the heck is Sweetest Day? Valentine's Day isn't enough? What, they have to get over the slump in card, candy, flower and jewelry sales? I heard the campaigns on the radio (usually those horrible jewelry store ads that say "Show her how much you love her with a big honkin' diamond") that usually start up around Valentines and resurrect for Mother's day, and then blissfully nothing until closer to Christmas. What on earth do we need another of these "holidays" for? I would hate to be a man and have to keep track of all this stuff.

And why is it the guys who have to give gifts and buy dinner? Shouldn't the women reciprocate?

I've never heard about Sweetest Day. :confused3 What is it? Is it like Valentines day?

Actually I'm treating DH to dinner. I buy him cards too.

I think TN should start recognizing this holiday. I love Valentines day though.

It's not a holiday. I can't help feeling sorry for all the poor guys who are going to get "Why the hell didn't I get a sweetest day gift?" when they had no idea they were supposed to come up with one.

If it is so wide spread that they sell cards specifically for it in MI, then they would know about it, wouldn't they?

We do NOT need another officially mandated day for which people are required to buy other people stuff. We really don't. We have enough.

It's odd to hear people say that they have never heard of Sweetest Day, when you've heard about it all your life. We do celebrate it here in MI (as the other MI posters have already said). However, I don't get all excited about it. I do think it's a hallmark holiday - I mean, if it's not celebrated nationally, then is it really a "holiday". Don't get me wrong, any excuse for my BF to be romantic and maybe to get a little gift, is fine with me but my bf is pretty romantic anyway so this isn't anything "special" for us. This year I bought him a tiny gift and a card ($10 total) and I don't know if I'll be getting anything but I don't really care. We'll probably stay home tonight and order some good take out food and watch movies and drink wine. That's my idea of a romantic evening.

Nonetheless...............HappySweetestDay everyone!

Oh yes, they know about it. It's advertised in the newspapers etc... Roses are on sale, stuffed animals, candy, sweetest day balloons etc.. Just like Valentine's Day. Even some restaurants offer Sweetest day dinner packages.

Sounds like a neat little 'holiday'. Wonder if it might become national. :goodvibes

It's been recognized here in PA for over 20 years.

DH and I used to "celebrate" it in our younger years. We don't any more. At a certain point in your life you realize that you have a great thing going with a wonderful man/woman and every day is indeed a sweet day.

FYI: Mother-In-Law's Day is celebrated in November.

I think it is a national holiday. Ok, not a real holiday. As far as I know, its not just confined to a few states. Its just that some stores and such make a bigger deal out of it, then others. Im sure any Hallmark store will have signs up.

Yep it's celebrated here in Michigan. I agree with other posters, everyday is a sweetest day to me. DH & I still exchange cards and he bought me a beautiful arrangement of flowers. Its all up to the couple. Never heard of Mother-in-Law Day :rotfl: ??

I guess dh and I are too old to appreciate "Sweetest Day". It truly is a "Hallmark Day".

We don't acknowledge it at all.

Ohio has it too, and I think it started here. American greetings invented it and it's world head quarters are here in ohio. We generally don't celebrate.
