Hello All,

So this October my DD is turning 16! I am so excited, and she wants to have a party! Her idea of a party is a trip to the beach in NJ and stay in a hotel(even though we live there). I was thinking someplace farther or more exotic like a cruise and she likes the idea. She wants to have a friend or two. I want to keep the price like 3,000 or less. ANyone have a suggestion on deals or already low priced vacation spots, we would go in August. Please HELP! I have no clue where to start!:confused3 Also has anyone ever been on a cruise, I am unaware of how they go as far as rates. Thanks!:yay::cool1:

My oldest (DD too) will also be 16 in October. Where do the years go?

She really doesn't want a party, so I am thinking about a weekend in NYC with her and her best friend.

With your budget, how about a 4 or 5 night cruise? Since you are in NJ, you could sail Royal caribbean out of Bayonne or Baltimore. Carnival also has a 5 night Canada cruise leaving out of NY that was very reasonable. I think it is like $549 a person. For four of you that would be around $2000.

Or....Myrtle Beach? Lots to do there.

Happy Planning!

I was thinking someplace farther or more exotic because we are always there. She wants to have 3-5 friends, but if we go father she said 1 or 2 and I could bring the friends mom as she is my best friend. I want to keep the price lower like 3,000-4,000. It's her birthday. Give her what she wants - a hotel stay at the Jersey Shore with 3 to 5 friends. You'll get off spending much less and she'll have a blast.

My DD is turning 16 in April. She wants to go to WDW. YAY!!!!! :cool1:

My dd turned 16 in Sept. We gave her a choice of a party or taking her and her 3 best friends to WDW. She chose the trip and we went in August. It was the best trip we have ever taken and would do it again in a heartbeat. We were there 6 days (actually booked 5, but Hurricane Irene changed that :rotfl:). We payed for airfare (having 2 free airfares helped), room (Being a member of DVC helped), parkhoppers and three meals a day. The girls brought money for snacks and souvies. We had backpacks made up for them for the plane/parks and filled with gum, lanyard, trader pins, wdw rain ponchos (have millions of them..we never seem to remember to bring them each trip lol). They all said it was the best decision..and they have 1000's of memories of that trip. Go for it..you won't regret it!

Just curious; What type of room did you get? My daughter turns 16 in 2014 and we are starting to talk about what she'd like to do. We are DVC members too, so Disney would be ideal (and she likes that idea as well). I would like the girls to have some privacy since hubby would be coming. At first I thought to request ajoining rooms, then I thought 2 seperate rooms but I am not sure that is even allowed, finally I thought a 2 bedroom might be best. It would help to know what others have done.

Since it kinda got off topic;)

There is a Disney cruise forum, not sure if you can do a Disney cruise for that amount:confused3 It will take some research. Summer tends to be more, it is the peak season. You can spend less with inside rooms.

Disney cruise is the only one that I know of the includes the cost of sodas and such. On the pool deck is a drink station. Other cruises you buy a drink pass/package. I do believe that all cruises include dining(Disney you rotate thru dining rooms; Norweign you dine when you want in certain dining rooms and pay for others). Excurshions will add to your final cost and you will genrally pay for them when you go on them. The total will be added at the end. You tips for differant things and people.

Another thing you need to factor into the cruise, will be passports or cards. I recommend passports if you are going to hit forgein ports(you will get differant opinions on it) especially if you are taking a frined or two. You will also need power of attonery to say that you can get medical and are in charge of the friends and can take them out of the country. You will also want to get the parents to sign off on what money they will provide for the friends, spending;excursions;or whatever.

If you have a rewards program that might help pay for some of it or help get upgrades. I know that I have shopped or gotten ideas for cruises from mine.

You know when you want to leave, you just need to figure out where you want to go and go from there.

Good luck and have fun.

We had a 2 bedroom lake view at BLT. My husband and I had the master bedroom and bathroom. The 4 girls were in the other room. Since BLT had has three bathrooms, we had 2 girls per bathroom. Each bedroom also had its own balcony as well. Worked out perfectly. Depending on how many girls you'll have I would definitely do BLT or Kidani just for the extra bathroom alone. We choose BLT because of the monorail.

This sounds great and my daughter keeps saying she wants to stay at BLT. Extra room and plenty of bathrooms is perfect. The girls will have some space, but not so much where they are unsupervised.

Thanks for sharing!

You're welcome. Being able to "shut" the other bedroom/bathroom off gave them tons of privacy, but not so much that I felt unable to supervise them. Just be afraid - if you're dd is like mine and her friends, it will look like a bomb went off in their space lol. Also, the extra bathroom was worth it's weight in gold. Got the girls out quicker in the morning, and the showers when we got back from the parks or the pool didn't last all night long. For 1 man and 5 women it was the perfect solution.

My teens love to cruise, and actually preferred NCL to DCL. Yes, you have to spend $40 or so on a soda card, but a NCL cruise will save you tons of money. DCL has the rotating dining, plus buffet, plus one pay restaurant, NCL has 2 MDR's, buffet, diner-like restaurant, and about 7 - 10 restaurants you pay for. We love to sail from NYC! Saves on airfare, and a lot of time.
