Daydreaming about my first trip to the world and I'll been think about food. I want my husband to have a great trip, and as we all know the way to any man's heart is through his stomach, right? :lmao: So, I really want to be able to recommend the best to him! So here's the game -

Can be from any of the parks or (on-site) hotels.

Sweet: List your absolute favorite sweet treat
Savory: Favorite savory item
Unusual: Something a little strange that you didn't think you'd like but loved, something you heard was really weird and had to try, ???

Seeing as how I've never actually been to WDW I have to go from what I've read about here on the boards.

Sweet: Dole whip - from?
Savory: cheddar cheese soup from le cellier
Unusual: I can't remember the name, but that strange soda? - from epcot?

Although I reserve the right to change my mind, I would say that today's favorites are:

Sweet: No Way Jose at Beaches and Cream, close 2nd is bread pudding at Ohana
Unusual: Scotch Egg at The Rose and Crown-really surprised that I liked it
Savory: "Prime" New York Strip at The Yachtsman

Jennie and Tim

Sweet: Baileys and Jack Daniel's Mousse at Coral Reef Cafe.
Savory: Everything on the dinner menu at Liberty Tree Tavern.
Unusual: Ham and Apple Sandwich from Kringla Bakeri Og Kafe in Epcot's Norway.

I can't remember the name, but that strange soda? - from epcot?

I assume you mean Beverly from the soda fountain in Club Cool. Trust me, no one likes Beverly. It's vile stuff. That being said, I have to sample it every time we go just to be reminded of how vile it is and that people actually enjoy it somewhere in the world (Italy, I believe).

As to your questions, my favorite...

Sweet Treat: Probably a dole whip float. Pineapple soft serve atop a cup of cold pineapple juice. It's the most pineapple-y thing ever, and I love it. A close second would be the cinnamon rolls from the Main Street Bakery. All of that being said, the "Caramelized Banana Napoleon" at Flying Fish might have been my favorite dessert ever at WDW.

Savory Item: Just to grab and go, I really loved the lettuce wraps from the Korea booth in last year's Food and Wine Festival. I think they are my favorite out-of-hand thing I've ever gotten in WDW. From a non-signature sit-down restaurant, I might have to go with the Grand Floridian Burger at the Grand Floridian Cafe. It's messy, but absolutely amazing. It's also impossible to go wrong with a steak from Shula's.

Strange Item: Well, I have a pretty diverse palette, so I'm fairly adventurous. There's not much that I don't eat, and even of the stuff that I don't typically make for myself, I'm not adverse to allowing a trained chef prepare it for me the way it's meant to be enjoyed. Case in point: I'm not really a fan of sweet potatoes. Something about the texture and flavor together turns me off, like something so starchy and mushy shouldn't be so sweet. However, I love the sweet potato hash on the Kouzzina breakfast menu, and the "Stacked Breakfast" platter that they do is fantastic.

Sweet: Artist Point berry cobbler
Savory: It's not the most exciting dish, but Le Cellier's mushroom filet with risotto and truffle butter is something that I've found myself craving
Unusual: Artist Point's crab salad with cucumber mint sorbet and black sea salt - the flavor combinations were great

Sweet: Chocolate souffle at Victoria & Alberts

Savory: Risotto at Il Mulino

Unusual: Dancing fish at bluezoo

Sweet: Too many to choose from! The rice cream from Akershus and a Dole Whip float are high on the list.
Savory: My favorite dish from my last trip was the mushroom pasta dish from Akershus. I didn't expect to love it as much as i did.
Unusual: I don't know if there was anything particularly unusual I tried. I really like Boma, and I guess some people find the food there to be unusual.

I really struggled with this... Mostly because I couldn't remember the name of the dish at Boma.

Sweet: Bread pudding from O'hana. Yummmmmmmmmmmm.
Savory: Bratwurst & Beer at the German Pavillion in Epcot.
Unusual: Meat Bobotie from Boma. Actually, almost anything that Boma serves! The first time we went to Boma, we liked it so much we cancelled our Spoodles reservation for the next day and went back!

OK, now I'm going to have to look for the bobotie recipe!

I don't know if I can narrow this down but I'll try:

Sweet: Zeppole from Via Napoli. I just loved these. They were perfect to share.

Savory: I don't see the exact item on the menu anymore, but at Yachtsman they used to have this amazing lobster salad appetizer. I just love a number of the Signature appetizers, to the point that I will often get an appetizer, side order and dessert and skip the entree altogether.

Unusual: Turkey Legs -more precisely, groups of people sharing one. Can you just picture someone ripping the leg off the turkey on Thanksgiving Day, taking a big ol' bite of it and then passing it around the table? Insert hurling smiley HERE.

Sweet: Bread Pudding from Ohana
Savory: Pot Roast from Liberty Tree Tavern in Magic Kingdom
Unusual: Not sure it is unusual, but I loved the Asian food at Sunshine Seasons at Epcot.
Enjoy your trip!

It has been several years so these might be out of date:
sweet: Ice cream cookie sandwiches on main street
savory: Parmesan mashed potatoes at chef mickeys (does not mean I'd recommend the whole meal)
unusual: I remember I really enjoyed counter service at Morocco

Michelle

Sweet - Bread Pudding from Ohana
Savory - Crab Gateau at Citricos
Unusual - Puffed Fench Toast / Breakfast Lasagna at Crystal Palace

Great thread! I'm loving reading everyone's lists and getting my own new ideas. :)

My choices would be

Sweet: No Way Jose' from Beaches and Cream
Savory: Snake in the Grass from California Grill
Unusual: Avocado Margarita from San Angel Inn

Sweet: Narcoosee's almond-crusted cheesecake
Savory: California Grill's spicy kazan sushi roll
Unusual: Flying Fish's potato wrapped snapper; it isn't really all that unusual but I was having a hard time imagining the potato crust and it turned out to be absolutely wonderful and nothing at all like what I imagined.

I am a very picky eater so I can't help much but.....For sweet the Zeppole at Via Napoli was to die for!!!!! I had my sister make them for Easter dinner dessert because I was craving them!!!! She did OK but VN was better. They are little puff balls of yummyness:love: I don't actually concider this sweet but the Dole Whips at MK are not to be missed! I don't know where this would fall but I love the nachos at Big River Grille and T-Rex. The cheddar cheese soup is good at LeCellier but IMO I am ordering the poutine(fries, cheese and gravy) Maybe that is my unusual?

Carrot Cake Cookie

Burger at Pesco Bills with liberal, bordering on inappropriate, amounts of fixins and plastic cheese fries

Assorted soda samples from Club Cool

I could give you a whole list for sweet :lmao:

Sweet: :worship:Butterfinger cupcake from Starring rolls in dhs, zeppole from via napoli, pistachio creme brulee @ tony's, Ice cream sandwich @ main st bakery.

Savory: ham and cheese croissant @ bakery in France, mac n cheese @ cape may clambake, pretzel bread and filet @ le cellier

Unusual: I was surprised I liked the strawberry soup @ 1900 Park Fare

I assume you mean Beverly from the soda fountain in Club Cool. Trust me, no one likes Beverly. It's vile stuff. That being said, I have to sample it every time we go just to be reminded of how vile it is and that people actually enjoy it somewhere in the world (Italy, I believe)

We actually spend about 1/2 hour every time we go to Epcot in Club Cool just watching others try Beverly for the first time. Expressions are priceless.

Sweet: Just about anything from the pastry counter in Norway.

Savory: Hard to pick a favorite, but I've been thinking about the Jarlseberg and leek soup from Norway too. I think I need lunch there next visit.

Unusual: The melon soda from China in Club Cool. Love the stuff.
