Maybe so. I thought they did a good job of making PD's character look like a self absorbed jerk.

Actually, I thought the opposite. I thought they did a great job of making him look like a nice guy. It was a bit more realistic than your typical romantic comedy where one guy is always the right choice and one isn't. It was clear that PD's character really loved her as much as Alabama-man. It made her choice all the more difficult to make.

Now his mother...that's another story! But I have to say that I do love Candace Bergen in these types of roles.

great movie!! one of my faves, i watch it every time it is on!! i love that she picked jake, they were so meant to be! i watched an interview with the director and he said the movie was first done where we saw dempsey as a slime - having affair with someone that worked with reese. so that way we rooted for her and jake. the test audiences hated it, so they cut that whole section out and made it so we would root for both guys and be happy with either of them. when you watch the credits you see a wedding announcement of patrict with a vanderbilt girl. that is the girl that was cut from the movie as his mistress, so we would have seen him have an affair with her and then marry her and hate him. now we just saw him get married and we're happy with him finding someone. i think it was a good script change! although i'm sure the actress was sad she got totally cut from the movie and was just in a photo at the end, lol! now i want to go home and watch the movie. LOL!!

I always said that I would have picked PD, no contest. I though he was really sweet in the movie. Yeah, her MIL would have been horrible, but his IL's wouldn't have been prizes either....this from a girl who was born and raised in Alabama!

I never thought PD appeared self-absorbed. I thought he was a world class sweetheart in this movie. And actually, in the first scene when Reese goes home, her Alabama-man acted like a bonehead.

Yep - PD shoulda won.

I really, really liked this movie. I think she had to end up with Jake because her life in NY was all a lie. Made up name and history. If she'd married PD's character the rest of her life would have been a lie.

This movie was on t.v. a couple nights ago. I am glad she went with Jake. She seemed to really love her hometown. True Alabama girl at heart!

I love this movie! Jake was the best guy to win the girl IMO, on the DVD there are a couple of alternate endings and none are as good as the actual ending!

I loved love love this movie! It's actually one of my favorite movies of all time! Maybe it's a small town Southern thing but I thought it ended just perfectly!!!!!

ok this is one of my favorite movies. and i knew it would be Jake all the way!!

I couldn't stand Patrick's character. Too "perfect" in my opinion. The beginning with all the flowers in her apartment, ok i'll get flamed here, but i hated that. it seemed to me like "hi i have money and i'm going to show it off in an absolutely ridiculous way".

I loved Jake's character. Someone said something about the beginning when she came back and he acted like a jerk to her, well who wouldn't. your spouse up and left without a word and then comes back suddenly and you would welcome them with open arms?

i loved the movie just the way it was!

I LOVE THIS MOVIE!! I like the way it ended though. Because they were soul mates at the age of 10! It was a really hard decision though, because Dempsey was such a great guy too! I hated his mother though!!

I love the movie, and I like the way it ended. The first time I saw it, I did expect her to end up with PD's character tho.
