Sweeper

We are in the market for a new vacuum. About 5 years ago, we bought a Dyson Animal and I love it for the most part. I don't know if it is our family (probably), but the plastic pieces keep breaking off and getting cracked. Certain younger members of the family are not so gentle when carrying the sweeper upstairs and down!!! So, as much as I don't want to, I have to buy a new sweeper. At this point I can't afford another Dyson. I have heard people comment on some sweepers they got at Wal-Mart (or a similar department store). Who has a sweeper they really like? Our whole house is carpeted so it will get used a lot. Probably want to spend in the $200 - $250 range. Thanks!

Can you just order replacement parts for the broken areas? If the vacuum is still working well, then it would be a shame to spend the money on a new one. Almost all newer vacuums have plastic housings because they are cheaper and lighter than metal. You may find yourself facing the same problem again in a few years.

I've had my Dyson Animal for 7 years and I love it. The only thing I've ever had to do is the routine filter cleaning. But then, I think that my kids consider it to be infected with something because I can't get them to touch it!

We were just in the sweeper market as well. We looked at some Dysons and after reading all the reviews we ended up going with a Kenmore, of all things. They had gotten a CR Best Buy for several years in a row, and were definitely less expensive than the dyson. Regular price was $350, sale price was $300, but we got lucky and got the floor model (never used, just didn't have a box) for $179! I'm VERY happy with it and would recommend it to anyone!
