swapping Magic Bands

So here is my question that came up while booking our FP+'s tonight.

Can you switch Bands with someone in your party who did not ride the ride with the group even though they had a FP+ with the group? This would allow folks to ride a ride twice during the FP+ window.

Now I am not saying I am looking to do this, so don't flame me. But the CM don't see names when people use FP+, so is this a loop hole?

They do see names, they pop up on the screen when you scan the band at the first entrance. But we swapped bands on our last two trips with others in the group for using their fastpasses without a problem. My one daughter was called by her sisters name to take one of the time scanners they sometimes give you. I had my husbands band and nobody ever said anything about me using his band for his fastpass.

Well I suppose it doesn't change how Many riders and selected FPs they plan to have in a day. It's not like you can use someone's MB to get in the park. So if you all have 3 FPs and you are legally in the park, then who cares who uses it.

Except for park passes, Disney doesn't appear to be that strict on WHO uses the FP's as long as the same no. of individuals that have FP selections get access and their MB's are linked together as part of the group that made the FP+.

We just got back a couple of weeks ago, and we didn't have to even exchange MB's (or feel guilty about it). As long as a member of the group that secured the FP hasn't used it yet you can substitute one person for another at the FP entrance to the ride as the CM's have an "exchange" option they can enter for that very purpose.

We did it a few times as I signed our entire group of 6 that was linked to me up for a particular ride and then if some couldn't make a ride, all we had to do is go up and substitute other people at the FP entrance. Sometimes we just got back in the FP line to ride again as long as we didn't exceed the total no. of FP's that had been reserved.

No, we didn't purposefully do it to scam the system, it just worked out that way a couple of times and we never exceeded the total no. of FP selections I had reserved initially that we were "legally" allowed to have as an entire group (since everyone had already paid to enter the park anyways).

Now I guess once the system starts getting abused and everyone starts getting FP+ for Aunt Matilda and every long lost cousin they can think of just so they can ride several times in a row, then Disney will have to come up with a plan to start scanning fingerprints to make sure someone only rides it once as a FP selection, but until then, I think Disney is more focused on not losing beverage refills at the resorts.

The CM do see names, but he don't care.

We did this a few times in February. My boys would ride with their MB and then ride a second time with my MB and DHs MB. We didn't have any problems.

Yes, of course you can do this. And CMs can see names if they look at the screen but who cares? If everyone in a party wants to give up their FP to one member of the party, why would you think the CMs would care?

Although I'm sure the individual cast members don't care.....I thought I remembered seeing something that states that MBs were for one person only and couldn't be swapped.

I am also sure that this probably relates to swapping of tickets etc rather than FP+ but it is possible that eventually some CMs might stop people swapping bands....

It is the same as it was with the paper FPs. I would give mine to my kids if I didn't like the ride. The only thing that changes is that you can't spread the magic. Many times we would walk into the parks and families would hand us FPs that they weren't going to use. We would then make sure to Pay It Forward to another family on our trip. We will have to find other ways to share the magic.

There are some people on here who clutch their pearls at the mere thought of someone using the FP+ that was designated for someone else in their party. I wouldn't worry about them or being "flamed".

The CMs can see everyone's name who comes through, but that doesn't really matter. I haven't heard one report where people have been stopped using someone else's band. The CMs at the scanners have much more important things to worry about than a woman named Frank. As long as the Mickey turns green they are glad to let you through.

Hmm interesting to know. Just kind of curious, might stick out if I try to be a Mackenzie or Maggie as I am the only boy on the trip. lol I guess I should shave my gotee and work on a higher pitched voice?

Doesn't matter. DH is one of our girls all the time and YDD uses everyone's bands to get extra rides on things we don't care for.

Good to know! Just booked my mom a FP for the Ana and Elsa meet and greet but I don't want to give up my dumbo FP that I will be riding with DD or any of the rides we will be doing as a group so I will just swap bands with her for the meet and greet. (She could care less) Excited! Don't see why CM's or anyone else would care but glad to see others confirmed it worked! :cool1:
