Swap ideas for the new year (2007)

Oh :wave2: Oh :wave2: Oh :wave2: Can I be the swap goddess. please can I can I??!! That would be such a cool tag!

Seriously though how many swaps due in a month? no more than 2 or 3? or will it depend in size? Or how about a buying swap, and element swap and a kit swap due in the same month. if there is no kit swap than 2 or 3 element swaps per month. I also think the swap goddess should be in charge of a flaker list to keep the host/hostesses informed.

we need to pick some reasonable turn around times too. Store bought stuff shouldn't be to bad but if you order something from OT (oriental trading) or anywhere else, if it's back ordered it could put a snag in the plan.

Maybe the number can also be dependant on time of year. Maybe we can have a couple more due in the summer, especially the smaller element swaps.

And the photography thread on the other board reminded me. I would like to do something like a "Hidden Treasures" swap. Kind of like the rare character swap, only for park stuff. The stuff that people take pictures of (or could be inspired to take pictures) but doesn't get covered by the normal "attraction" type stuff. The trash cans, topiaries and other floral things, streetmosphere entertainment, hidden mickeys.

Oh my gosh you guys move fast - 5 pages since this morning! I can tell I'm not going to get any actual scrapping done in 2007 - how is all this talk helping us Swapaholic Anonymous members!?!? ;)

Nancy - we totally think alike! I had typed up this whole thing about an altered puzzle swap this morning then ended up deleting it. I had seen some of the completed puzzles on TwoPeas and I immediately wanted a Disney-themed one for my scrap room. I bought a nice wooden puzzle and I was going to try making one myself before I suggested it for a swap but I'd definitely be interested in doing one next year. Were you thinking just altered pieces or doing it with the goal of everyone having a complete puzzle? I did some web surfing for the latter kind of swaps this summer and actually typed up a whole intro/set of instructions about it back before things got kind of zooey on the swap boards. I could pass on to you what I found if and when you decide to do it and I could help you on the organization if you needed it. And I'm making it a goal (in writing) right now to use that puzzle I bought to try it out before the New Year.

I think Buffy should be the Swap Goddess. She will keep us all in line. :teeth:

Well, I had thought that far but either individual pieces or a puzzle all together would be neat.. maybe do one group for each.... Send me those instructions and I'd be glad to work with you on this!!! I know this year w/ DH I'm definitely going to have a backup host that I can send everything to if the need arises.. I think we will be fine..but just incase life gets in the way... That way we don't have delays!!!

Let me know how that puzzle turns out.. MY goal for the rest of the year is to get my 2005 Disney trip finished...and work on my kids' albums.. I'm only upteen years behind!!!

Lots of great swap suggestions!

I would love a general park swap. I take a lot of random pictures in the parks and it would be nice to have some swap items that are just general Epcot, MK, etc.

I would also like to see a months/holidays swap for nonDisney stuff too! I seem to be all set with my Disney scrapping. My everyday scrapping - that's another story!!

The Secret Sister swap has been a lot of fun. I would love to do that again.

The Topper/Tag swap was another good one. That could be done with any theme.

So...when do we sign up?!

Nancy - cool - I'll pull everything together and send it to you.

Looking over the page one list I'm actually interested in a lot of the themes. We do go to Universal/IOA on some trips so I'd be interested in that, but I think it'd be a bit more challenging since you wouldn't be able to rely on "product" like you can with the bazillion Disney papers and stickers and embellishments that exist. Universal is woefully underrepresented out there. But I'd put my thinking cap on for it!

I also selfishly would love if there was some kind of overarching organization (like the Swap Goddess). I can't join every swap (as much as I'd like to) and if I knew what was on the horizon I could pace myself and choose the best ones that fit my time schedule.

I'd love to have a finished puzzle! Would the hostess buy the puzzles and mail everyone their pieces and then they would be mailed back to the hostess for swapping.

I'm not worthy! :worship: Darn right I'll keep all of ya'll in line. Should I replace my avatar with a pic of a whip? :bored: LOL this is as close as it gets!

If the hostess finds a good type of puzzle and would be able to buy a lot of them that would work. Otherwise everyone buys their own, labels the back of their pieces and sends them to the hostess who then divies them up. The finished pieces would be mailed back to the hostess who re-divies them up, yadda yadda. The organization of this one is a tad more involved than a regular swap.

I've never seen the blank ones before (except for tiny 5 x 7 ones). I bought a few different types of kids puzzles to try out and most of mine are 24-25 pieces and they're around 10 x 14. My favorites are the ones with the frame because then you can alter the frame too and it's ready to be hung or displayed.

I'm going to fool around with one of my cardboard ones first. I have a really nice wooden puzzle that I want to somehow use to feature pictures of each of my family members. I have a vision in my head but I'm just not quite sure how to start it.

I'd be willing to buy the pieces to mail to everyone... :)

Buffy - you are exactly who I had in mind when I said Swap Goddess! LOL! Great minds think alike. I didn't want to come right out and say I think Buffy should be the swap goddess, in case I stepped on any toes. And a back up Goddess is a great idea too. :) We'll need to get you a little crown or something. :goodvibes

I think having a kit swap, element swap and embellie swap (or mixed up as needed) per month is a great idea. That is still plenty of swaps and hopefully no one will get overwelmed with anything. ETA: Although, I think that maybe we should limit it to no more than 2 page kit swaps per month. Maybe even 2 element swaps if the groups are large too.

The flaker (gosh, I hate to call it, but maybe "Be aware of" ) list is also a good idea, but I think it should remain private. It's a good thing to have though so a hostess will be able to keep on top of a swapper who has a tendancy towards flaking.

What about setting some due date ground rules too? Like maybe Due dates are firm and hostesses will only wait for 1 week for stragglers and then swap. I think it would probably help to have set time limits for each and every swap. WDYT?

LOL, this is basically the same thing I wrote about the oriental trading stuff! :rotfl:

ps--swap goddesses...you guys are killing me! :teeth:

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention which type of swaps I'm interested in.

I'd like some Bazzill page kit swaps, maybe even doing a specific paper co. like Basic Grey or something too.

AK swap
Epcot- Future world
Maybe a swap with other Orlando area attractions i.e Sea World, to go along with the US/IOA

Who am I kidding, I'll probably sign up for anything! :lmao:
