First trip to DW, and not sure what to expect.
We will be staying at the Swan the end of March, and got the
government rate and upgraded to a waterview room. I'm not
sure this is what is best from everything I have read on these
boards. Would like information on what floor and room type
has the best view. Also, is it best to request a balcony room?

That depends.

I must admit the most awesome view at any resort on WDW property had to be when we stayed at the Swan in a studio room in the main bldg which didn't have a balcony. We were up on the 8th floor I believe and we had the most amazing view. Not only did we have a great view of Illuminations at EPCOt and the fireworks there but we could also see the fireworks at MK.

We've also stayed in a room with a balcony that had a beautiful view of everything in the EPCOT area. The balcony rooms are located in either the west or east wing. There are some in the main part of the hotel but not sure if they belong to suites.

The latest addition to the Swan are the remoldeled rooms with the heavenly beds. Since we've had so many wonderful views already I would definitely jump on that one to request one of those rooms.
