Swan rate is 1800 for 5 nites in a tradtional room .. poly is 2850 renting dvc points in a lake view studio…. Is it worth the extra and why!!??tia

This is such a subjective question. The pros of being at the Poly are the proximity to MK, TTC to get to Epcot. Also, it’s an OG resort and a lot of people she’s a dream of staying there. But then again Swan has great proximity to EP and HS, Boardwalk area, has a great pool and dining and is a fraction of the cost with the benefits of a deluxe.

It really depends on how you plan on spending your time, ie, are you going to MK more than once? Do you plan on spending time exploring monorail resorts for dining and touring. Is it important to you to stay at an OG report? Are you going to all 4 parks, and is it a park heavy trip in general, or will you have a lot of resort time? If it’s park heavy trip, and only one day at MK, probably not worth it to be at poly for the whole trip.

I’ve stayed at both. Personally, I like the idea of a split stay. 2 nights at Poly, then 2-3 nights at swan.

The other thing to consider when renting points is the lack of options for refunds should something unexpected come up. Conversely, with the Swan you have I think up until week of to make changes with no fees.

Thank you for the input!

I love staying at the Swan and Dolphin for all the reasons the previous poster mentioned. That said, we rented DVC points for a long weekend at the Poly a couple of years ago, and I loved that also. One advantage is the second shower-sink. Had choice - that $1000 difference would buy a lot of extras

For me? I'd probably pay the difference just because I've had really not great experiences with Marriott and avoid their properties whenever possible. But I'd also look for something less than the Poly.

For me, the convenience of multiple transportation options and the ability to charge back to my room makes a difference.

I stayed at the Dolphin this past May for two nights because I got a great rate with my Marriott points, so it made this add-on to a business trip very economical. I never really felt like I was in the Disney bubble, though, while at the hotel. I missed that a lot.

This is one of those instances where I think party size/demographic makes a big difference, and I think the fact that you're comparing a Studio to a regular room makes a difference too. The Poly studio is useful if you're a larger party because of the extra shower/sink area. If you have younger kids or just want to spend more time at Magic, staying at the Poly makes it easy to slip back to the hotel for a quick nap or time at the pool in the middle of the day. Versus if you're going solo or if you're two adults, you don't really need the additional shower/sink and if you prefer to spend time at Epcot/DHS, it's easier to get there.

Both Places are great, gotta be careful with the whole Lake view, we did that last summer got lake view but we were on the first floor and only view we had was of the Bungaloes in front of us. Poly is great when going to the MK or even Epcot, you can actually walk to the TTC and catch the monorail there.... Swan is great cause you can take the boat to either Epcot or HS.... We love Poly but 1000.00 is alot to save and gives you some extra spending money !!!

For the savings, go swan. They have amazing food, the pool is beautiful and huge, and the beds are sooo comfy. Being able to just walk out of Epcot (or HS) and walk back to your room without getting a queue for the monorail is such a perk! There were plenty of elevators without have to squish into or wait for several (looking at you poly grand ceremonial house). And my all-time favorite perk of the swan was free bottles water. I’d politely ask for extra bottles and we’d be left with half a dozen!

But a few of the negatives in the swan room for me was that none of the usb ports in the room worked (so glad I brought lots of charging blocks). There is literally NO WHERE to hang wet things, towels included. No hand towel rack with the 2nd sink—ended up using the makeup mirror. I’d set my swimsuit out on our balcony to dry. But if I were saving a ton of $$$ to stay at the swan, I’d totally do it again (which is why I loved us from POFQ because it was the SAME PRICE to stay deluxe with all the mentioned perks in this thread).

Over the years we've stayed a lot at Swan & Dolphin, the savings compared to Disney Deluxe is a huge reason why. But even then, the savings compared to Moderates often makes a big savings as well. The big plus is the location, ability walk or boat to two parks.

Yes, you're not in the "Disney Bubble" but IMHO that is a bit over rated, we spent more time in the parks so our room is not the high point of our stay. But we still wanted it to be nice. Keep in mind that at S/D/R you want to book, and pay for the view you want, don't expect a free upgrade from a no-view room to a view room.

Another great thing about S/D/R is the food options, unlike most that have 1 or may 2 nice sit down locations you have 6 to choose between the three hotels, as well as another 10 casual/QS spots.

Now, if you have very young kinds and plan to spend most everyday at MK, then the Poly makes a lot of sense... but for a $1000 I still wouldn't spend the money at the Poly.

When somebody tells me, I'll probably say, oh yeeaah.

@pixiedust2u used it to indicate an Original (OG) resort. The CR and Poly are the OG resorts... Yea you know it.

Dave

Haha. Yes, this exactly!
Thanks. Oh yeeaah.

I guess the G threw. I was thinking maybe Original Golf resort, Shades of Green. I guess the G is the g in Original? Not sure if I ever have heard/seen the two originals referred to as the OG's.

But thanks Dave and PD2.

Ha it’s fine. I’m having to google things all the time my kids come home saying 🤣

Do you have a car? You have to pay for parking at the swan. Does the swan total include the daily hotel fees? What’s the focus of your trip is it adults only? Little kids?

For me, it would depend mostly on a few things. First, how much time do you spend at MK vs Epcot and the Disney Studios? Second, how much impact would that extra $1000 have on your budget? Third, have you found the resort that feels like your Disney home yet?

Earlier this month I stayed with family at the Yacht Club because we got a great deal. My adult niece and I both stated we missed the Swan. The size of it, the closeness of so many food options, the whole vibe of it. Depending on budget I may stay somewhere else (I have a bounceback booked for POFQ) but I kind of know where I belong now. If you haven't felt that, maybe keep trying new to you resorts.

OP, Could you say what your party size and makeup are? What your dates are? This could help with advice.

Also, have you been to WDW before? Often? Because, if this is your first trip, that would make a difference as well.

And, of course, one negative of renting DVC points is that there's little to no flexibility with your dates and many DVC reservations are nonrefundable. That's something to consider.
